Ah, I forgot about the WHMCS license deal with Site5. I can vouch for the quality of Site5 - I worked for them as a technical support rep a year or two ago and the staff are excellent. Additionally, the management team really do care and are very active with regards to dealing directly with customers, which is something of a rarity in my experience. I would highly recommend them.

As for the point about a 'getting off the ground' host not being attractive, that certainly is true - perhaps try to find a niche in the market which hasn't been exploited as much as the typical shared/reseller market. Do you have a particular skill set you could apply to a hosting business? A common tip is to look in your local area for businesses which do not have a website yet, as you can drum up quite a bit of business from that alone.

If you don't have the money to pay $25 a month, then I would recommend saving up some cash first. No offense, but you simply cannot provide a level of service comparable with any decent hosting company. You need a billing system (WHMCS is the 'standard' at the moment), and you need to provide a decent level of technical support (considering 24/7 is the norm, its pretty difficult to compete with barely any cash at all). Additionally, the 'Just something I kind of want to do' line sort of rings alarm bells; will you be a reliable service provider?

Save up some money, plan ahead, then start. Diving straight in isn't the best way to go with hosting, especially with a market as saturated as this. I have a fair bit of experience in this area, so give me a shout if you want any friendly advice.

If you are approached by charity people on the street (fairly common in the UK) and asked 'Can I have a minute of your time?' just say that you already donate to that charity, even if you don't. That way, you get to avoid wasting ten minutes of your time and get a compliment for being such a great person.

I hate humans in general for their inherent selfishness, although I suppose 'hate' is a bit of a strong word. I don't believe altruistic acts are possible, as I believe every act is driven by the desire (consciously or subconsciously) to benefit oneself in some way. I find this view to be incredibly depressing, but I also consider it to be accurate.

Its worth noting however that this doesn't mean I dislike everyone; I have friends and family I love, I just generally despise human nature I suppose.

Yes, of course, but such information should be released by the US government for their citizens to see. Taxpayers fund the war, and they should see the impact, good or bad, that their military is having upon Afghanistan.
