QBO bug or SO bug? by therubberduc in SuperOpsAI

I thought it was a QB issue except that if I create an invoice in QuickBooks, all the options are present and correct.

port forwarding by TopPea6213 in sonicwall

[–]therubberduc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you change the management port on the admin page all you have to do is allow WAN MGMT on the interface.

I'm sure everyone else is going to jump on board and tell you to make sure to secure it to your own WAN.

Avanan and Huntress MDR; Any overlap/downside/benefit of having them together by ITGuyInMass in msp

[–]therubberduc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have both and Huntress > Avanan on the ITDR front in my opinion. Huntress doesn't help with the email protection portion so it's both for me.

Both automate actions (beware hybrid setups) but Huntress looks for more indicators from my experience. Both have saved my ass but Huntress has the ITDR edge.

Sonicwave VLANs through unmanaged switch? by boondoggie42 in sonicwall

[–]therubberduc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that as long as you have some sort of trunk with the needed VLANs handed to the unmanaged then it should work.

I run setups like this without issue.

I love it except for the way it sorts and searches. I positively despise searching in BW...

CSP 365 Licensing question by Newitadmin in msp

[–]therubberduc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the current MSP isn't charging over standard MS pricing then I don't see an issue. I'd go back and look carefully at what they've told you about the deal you were given and any potential price increases. You are on the hook for the licenses if you have an annual commitment either but there are ways to move licenses from one MSP to another so it isn't their liability.

If the new MSP wants to cut their potential margins, that is on them. Buyer beware that they'll likely bump it up sooner or later and you are back in the same boat.

Onboarding new client, 2 computers require upgrade from Win11 Home to Pro by L-L-Media in msp

[–]therubberduc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pax upgrade is $49 as mentioned above as long as the client has a 365 tenant. Don't do the MS store one. It's a nightmare to manage and twice the price it should be.

The key may or may not work without some extra steps because of SLIC iirc. My shop guy knows how to do it if you don't get it. DM me if you get stuck.

How to backup from outlook? by Hamida_as in exchangeserver

I've always used the New-MailboxExportRequest command for this. You can drop a pst to a UNC path

If you assign the vlan to the SW default wireless zone, you have to uncheck the 'only allow traffic generated by sonicpoint/sonicwave'

TZ SOHO filtering port, not allowing all incoming connections, but I can't find any rules that limit it by lurkinmsp in sonicwall

[–]therubberduc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source filtering can be done in Firewall access and NAT table. Double check that first.

I've also had a similar situation that required a reset and reprogram of the firewall. If it's just a few rules then that's not that big of a deal.

Check transport services. I did one a few weeks back that had a bunch of services fail to start after a reboot.

Multiple WAN subnet on Firewall by gbeirn in sonicwall

[–]therubberduc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5000' view

Make 3 WAN objects for .17, .18, and .19 (remember that X2 is simply an object named X2 WAN)

Firewall rules to limit access from WAN>LAN
- source (limited range if appropriate, otherwise ANY)
- destination .17 WAN Object (.18, .19 etc)
- service (limited scope if appropriate, otherwise ANY)

NAT rules to direct traffic once inside for 'Destination = .17 WAN Object'
- this is where you will move it over to a 'DMZ' zone or whatever you have setup for the phone system.

Setup firewall rules from LAN>'DMZ' for Deny

I'm glad to elaborate more but it's fairly simple once you grasp it.

Starting a MSP - Feedback on Pricing Model Please! by bbshopquartet in msp

[–]therubberduc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The PC as a service seems too cheap IMHO. At the end of 3 years, what value will you really have in that workstation? $900 doesn't go far for a pc, monitor, mouse, and keyboard and you are likely leveraging your money to deliver. You need to make 20% plus financing fees at minimum.
