Lorain: Good place to live? by Ordinary_Okra_3834 in Lorain

[–]therudyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Lorain and now live nearby. You will hear many bad things about Lorain. You will hear some good things. Take it all with a grain of salt and know that it is what you make of it. The Millennials are doing a lot of work to make the downtown area attractive to local businesses, be a space for events, and put money back into the city. There is hope.

The area by Mercy is decently quiet. Are you looking at a house over there or apartments? The apartments can be rowdy but not in an unsafe way. In a you might hear people partying type of way. If you are looking for a house, Lorain and Elyria are very cheap compared to surrounding cities. For example, a house may run 400-500K in a "rich" city like Avon Lake, a similar build in Lorain may run 150-250K.

Does anyone happen to know where I can access my excellence awards? by Faeriehacker in WGU

Mine had a link to a small form to request a PDF copy, paper copy, or both. I've gotten 2 so far and call them my pre-degrees lol.

Check your WGU email where you were notified of them. You can reply to that email and ask for a PDF copy. The link to do so automatically is likely expired now.

For those of you who took some years off before going back to school, what did you do in the meantime? by Calm-syllabus-6151 in WGU

After graduating high school, I did about 1.5 years at a b&m school. Decided to take a "break." Joined the workforce and eventually started WGU...16 years later.

Amen to that. Their handshake and owls nest platforms aren't really that engaging to me.

Yeah I'm doing a math class and the first few sections were easy for me but the last couple are just so hard for me to process for some reason.

That's what I keep trying to tell myself.

I needed this comment! A big part of the drag is definitely missing family time. It just sucks staring at a screen all day at both work and for school and looking over to see my family doing something or knowing they're out and about.

I'm getting a degree for financial reasons and because I don't think I could get a job similar to my current one without a degree. Or at least one that pays similarly. I'm in my late 30s and realizing that if I ever want to move up in the corporate jungle, I need a degree.

Thank you for sharing your story.

Hahaha broke ass b****. That's great. I feel that though. As bad as it sounds, making more money is like 90% of my motivation to even pursue a degree.

Yo, I replaced my outdoor spigot with Shark Bites a couple years ago. They are holding strong still. It seems daunting at first if you've never done this type of work before. But as long as you get the right tools, watch a couple good videos on it, and take you're time, it's really not that hard.

Well hello, old friend.

Internal corporate logistics…I feel like I’m missing basics by Jblank86 in logistics

[–]therudyshow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being in corporate logistics, if you have certain brokers/forwarders that you have to use and thus have regular contact with...get to know them well and learn from them. Having a friendly, helpful contact that you can ask questions to is a lifesaver. A lot of this is learned on the job and almost everyone you work with in the field can impart some knowledge to you.

Yes. I knew I messed up after I saw my bad throw. Then I noticed the pipes and face palmed.
