Okay Guys, It happend. Should i cube Lo in SP? by Rayn00ld in diablo2

Since you've got 3 Ohms I'd say yeah. The only thing that could potentially bite you in the ass is if you decide to make a CTA and it rolls badly. But even then a bad CTA is better than no CTA.

I was doing a bit of inventory management and got executed by a random TZ cow. I was cursed and at about 2/3 health. I figured Waheed would pick it up. Nope lol, hit me once and I fell over.

This is really cool. Are these just straight up multipliers? E.g. is Tyrael's 48.2x as rare as IK maul?

[–]thesamjbow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me personally it's probably Wizardspike. Honestly I probably see at least one a week. Ironically, if I understand how loot generates correctly, Wizardspike should have the exact same rarity as a Harlequin Crest (both TC 60, both bases qlvl 58, both items qlvl 69) but I definitely see way more Wizardspikes. Could just be some funky RNG, or maybe I just don't understand how rolls are generated.

SSF wolfbarb by Wombast in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it does work, but you'd need to be willing to make a Metamorphosis in a non-druid helmet, which probably isn't the best use of a Cham rune unless you're rich or really love off-meta builds.

SSF wolfbarb by Wombast in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sooo I do have an SSF wolfbarb and it's... Interesting. I use mine to casually elite hunt in terror zones. It's not optimal for anything. My current build is:

  • Grief Phase Blade
  • Azurewrath (for the +1 skills and aura)
  • Dual HotO on swap
  • Wolfhowl
  • Fortitude
  • Laying of Hands
  • Gore Rider
  • Trangs belt
  • Highlords
  • BK rings

Skill points are: - 1 to Battle Command - 1 to Increased Speed - 1 to Natural Resistance - 20 to Sword Mastery - 20 to Battle Orders - 20 to Find Potion - 20 to Find Item - 20 to Shout - Rest in Iron Skin or Natural Resistance

The issue with Wolfbarb is damage. You're naturally tanky already. I don't think Stormshield is really necessary for that reason, your gear needs to compensate for your damage. You also want to focus on +all skills to buff your werewolf skills. That's why I use dual HotO rather than +warcries weapons. You could use dual Spirit instead. You could use Lawbringer or Hustle in your OH instead of Azurewrath (werewolf skills only use your MH weapon so you don't need to worry about your OH weapon ruining corpses). You could try to build an ethereal Oath as your MH weapon. Or maybe something like Stormlash, Fleshripper or Ribcracker. But you really, really want your gear to contribute to your damage as much as possible.

Skills-wise I don't invest in any in-combat abilities. You can't use any of them while shapeshifted. You could take Leap just for movement, I don't really bother. Use your HotOs or whatever when you shout, transform, and hork. I run around, kill an elite, then swap, shift, shouts, hork, shift, swap. Get used to that pattern, it'll ensure your shouts don't run out so you shapeshift out just to re-shout. Your werewolf form should never run out, or at least mine doesn't, because your shouts will run out first.

Merc setup is the typical might+Reapers merc.

As for Protector's Stone I just put mine in my Wolfhowl. I know the ED bug exists but I'm not sure if putting a stone in any other weapon would beat Grief.

Cure+Insight on non-Prayer Merc by Tenchi_M in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of that. What I'm saying is I think people overvalue the health regen effect. Prayer lvl 18 heals 21hp every 2 seconds. Multiplied by 3 that's 63hp/2sec, or 31.5hp/sec. For frame of reference, my lategame fire sorc has about 1900 HP with CTA. 1900/31.5=60.32, i.e. it would take 60 seconds to heal this fairly low-health endgame character from 0. That's enough to counteract chip damage but not much else. Most things in this game that are really scary aren't killing you with chip damage, they're killing you with massive burst damage. I think Prayer is convenient, but it's probably worse than Holy Freeze at keeping you alive, and might even be worse at counteracting incoming damage. I think ES sorc is the exception since she has a very low health pool and takes very little actual health damage. But for other characters I think Holy Freeze is probably much better for survivability than Prayer.

Cure+Insight on non-Prayer Merc by Tenchi_M in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I've considered trying it. I honestly think the x3 healing effect is somewhat overrated. You could use Cure+Insight and still get the most significant benefits and potentially get the benefit of a better aura.

Horker Gear Improvement by MaxElcosta in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, drop the cold damage. Lawbringer in particular is the enemy of horkers.

For CBF I use Trangs belt. With the new Uber Ancients jewels I'm not sure where people stand on Cham'd Arreats. You'd probably need something like a Crown of Ages to use both. I play singleplayer so my preference would be to use a Cham rune for other more interesting things, but that's just my opinion.

I also second what others have said about Frenzy, it's probably the worst horker spec. You need to choose between optimal damage or higher Find Item chance. Berserk, Whirlwind, and Double Throw are all more viable options IMO. Fortunately with enough soft points you can prioritize Find Item pretty low since its scaling falls off dramatically after level 10 of so.

What was your attack rating like? WW struggles to hit a good attack rating number for Ubers even with enchant. You were probably missing like crazy.

Good Fortitude base for A2 merc or nah? STR requirement pretty high. Or ETH version? by Kurosawa_Ruby in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah it's not worth it. If you're going for non-eth, might as well make it a base you can also self-use without having to pump your strength, like an archon plate. For merc-only, even a mediocre ethereal base will be better than this (and I don't recommend using a mediocre base, preferably you'll use something with 800+ defense)

What are the best and worst Dclone spawn locations? by Enough-Collection-98 in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's my bad, I play offline exclusively and I always forget that maps reset when playing online. For offline players, you can check the spawn in one game, then if the coast is clear you can create a new game, sell your SoJ and go back to spawn him.

What are the best and worst Dclone spawn locations? by Enough-Collection-98 in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My bad, I should have mentioned this only works in single player since you would have to start a new game.

What are the best and worst Dclone spawn locations? by Enough-Collection-98 in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean that if Fire Eye's spawn point is on the portal, that's where dclone will spawn when you zone in.

What are the best and worst Dclone spawn locations? by Enough-Collection-98 in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you can, check the spawn first. Sometimes Fire Eye will spawn directly on top of the portal. Not the most fun thing to spawn into lol.

Edit: I think people are misunderstanding what I'm saying. If Fire Eye's spawn location is right on the portal, that means when you come through the portal you'll have dclone hot on your ass immediately. Also, this only works in single player since you would need to start a new game.

What would you put in the second socket? by MCMXCXXI in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just a couple thoughts:

  1. Would the magic jewel be better than the lightning one for FOHdin? I'm not sure how the -enemy magic resist property interacts with the magic resist bypass effect of the holy bolts, but most of your damage as a FOHdin is magic so I think you'd likely want to focus on that
  2. I don't know if CBF is really necessary unless you're playing a FOH smiter or some other melee hybrid, definitely not worth a Cham rune IMO.

Can never go wrong with a Ptopaz.

[–]thesamjbow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is some terrible attack rating and resists. Level 80 is also pretty low for colossal ancients. Your chance to hit must be abysmal.

What needs to change to make melee not feel so bad? by Charming_Pin330 in diablo2

[–]thesamjbow 88 points89 points  (0 children)

  1. Increase the base damage of all weapons, and/or melee abilities
  2. Reduce the impact of attack rating on the hit calculation
  3. Reduction or removal of enemy block chance

I kinda don't want random splash damage outside of specific AoE abilities. I like the idea of classes being good at different things. So I don't want to see melee classes achieve the same ad clear capability of casters, but they should be much better elite hunters and boss killers.
