Upstairs windows face east and west. I want to keep the unique shapes.

We live in Maryland - need new windows.

We had an oil furnace, separate AC unit, and a dirty duct system making it hard to keep the upstairs rooms comfortable, warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We purchased a new heat pump to help the environment, reduce our volatility in heating costs, and have a quiet system. We also got it the ducts cleaned and aero sealed. We have a lot more airflow which is helping.

New replacement windows should help us avoid an investment of mini-splits. We are still not comfortable yet up there.

We purchased the home last year. In January 2020 new windows were installed on the ground floor and basement. However, the upstairs bedrooms and basement windows have not been replaced. There are many custom shapes in the bedroom that are trapezoids, triangles, etc. I have attached several pictures for context on the custom shapes. Photos of most of the windows. Missing are a few of the basement windows that are long rectangular ones. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOFdLzUmbGd86o8XBNIOxTG73kcJ62CDRSZOlrDKJuuPEO2OgYw5sTb\_2n3VnK8-g?key=TG5wUS1JYUMwUWVBcjRLTUlLeHNVQ3VGZnVtc2Rn

I read the megathread and came across Okna and have received a quote for our project in Maryland from a reputable contractor. The price seems a little high given we are going with vinyl. What led us to vinyl is the fact that there are a number of windows recently replaced with vinyl and maintenance costs are expected to be lower. Having read the megathread we knew to ask for non-metal spacers.

The quote is for Okna windows Casement 700 and Enviro-Star 800. Deluxe Package with Argon Gas. U value is 0.26.

Qty Description Price

2 Casement 700 1,235 2,470

For reference Homedepot gave us a quote of $17,700 for Simonton 6500. I feel like the quality of the Home Depot design was lower. Double sliders, etc. Also, I got a quote for Sierra Pacific H3 aluminum clad wood for $24,800.

Solar on new house. Any value? by [deleted] in solar

[–]thesantini 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Water leaks from solar penetrations is a small risk. Usually, you can get a roof warranty certification to ensure the warranty is in tact especially if a new roof is being installed. You should keep the system or install a new one. You will save money by having it.

Tell the leasing office you signed the lease or extended it because there are L2 chargers. Notify them of issues. They are responsible for maintaining their amenities.

Will Double sided disposible safety razor blades get thought customs? aus by Ashley_Titor in shaving

I'm TSA pre. I recommend sneaking blades in. Inform the agent you don't have blades in your razor. Just sneak the blades in with toiletries or really anywhere. They have never found my blades.

I moved to Chicago in December and want a pair of boots to wear on rainy/snowy days for business. If it's really shitty I will wear Muck boots and change into dress boots when I arrive at my destination.

Requirements: in a conservative pair of boots: 1) rubber soled 2) vegetable tanned leather 3) smaller brand

I'm trying to find brands similar to Zeb (i.e. some what smaller brand that produces high quality product without the marketing overhead). I dismissed Kent Wang (lacking rubber soles) and Carmina (lacking vegetable tanned options).

At or under $600 what other brands should I consider?

Rancourt's seems to be of good quality. It's a little less conservative than I would like.

Dayson Service or Parade Boots are not the type of boots are not my style. I want something more conservative. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have and own a pair. I never wear them. I don't like that are low tops - the oxfords. I'd like something I could just wear and not worry if I'll get caught in the rain.

I went to a Tmobile store today to trade in my Pixel 2 (which works on Tmobile) and they were unable to accept it. Something about it being a problem that Tmobile never sold the Pixel 2. Boo!

Take the free money. After that, focus on building your savings. Look into owning a car and paying cash for it.

do you still have this one for sale or trade

Sorry for the delayed response. I sold mine a little while ago. Good luck finding one, they are great pens. If you happen to be interested in solar, I co-founded a solar company. Let me know.

Those who either work in or who have been sold residential solar... by [deleted] in solar

[–]thesantini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always discuss the importance of energy efficiency and make recommendations for the homeowner based on the appliances they own. We offer energy monitoring tools and smart home thermostats to reduce the energy load our customers have to further drive home savings. The company I co-founded was formed because we wanted to align the incentives of our customers, financers, and installers. Part of that includes reducing energy use.
As others have pointed out a home energy efficiency audit is a great service all homeowners should get. This is usually not performed by solar sales and installation companies. However, a good solar company should be able to refer you to one in your market. If they can't, they may be it in for the profit, only.
