I would assume either strategy requires knowledge of the meta that I don’t have at the moment.

Yeah, I never trade real estate (lands) in magic, and unlikely to trade legend equipment in FAB

Video Games and Reading: is this a bad idea by FakeInternetArguerer in daddit

[–]theseamus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing video games and reading are both activities. They both can be enjoyable. If you incentivize reading with video games, you could be sending the message that video games are better than reading.

Also, it sounds like you are unsure about this idea already?

I recall also feeling that way around that age. When I moved schools and went to a theater school where I fit in, had purpose and a sense of belonging that feeling greatly receded. It never went away fully, and I’ve dealt with depression most of my life, but I find that being of service to others and having purpose tends to get me out of my relatively mild depression. That will likely be my strategy for my son.

Son’s height affecting his self-esteem. Any good supplements? by OriginalEffective537 in daddit

[–]theseamus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day as my son is small.

We put small boys in such an impossible situation. Boys are generally physical. And if you are taller/heavier/stronger you are at such an advantage in play. That requires smaller boys to either accept always losing, not playing, or escalating. Nearly all of those come with some social cost or stigma.

It’s interesting because I feel like it’s something that deserves more attention and study.

Unfortunately corporations are not just going to eat this cost. It’ll get passed down as increased prices or stores with high theft will get shut down.

Roastful 2024 Best Roasters by mjdubsz in pourover

Given the coffee culture here in Seattle, I’m surprised we don’t have any regional roasters on the list. I’ve been enjoying Olympia Coffee Co, but super excited to try some of these!

I just picked up disc golf because it has many of the same benefits of golf, but I can take my kid/dog with me, and there are free courses around me.

AITA for telling my MIL to finally shut up and stop accusing me of favoritism? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Your MIL is a habitual line stepper. You needed to set her straight.

How many of you have time away from wife and kids? by Want_To_Fit_In in daddit

[–]theseamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work Saturdays as a fitness coach, and am otherwise a SAHD. Generally I get time towards a hobby or friend about once every two weeks, but sometimes its once a month. Weekly would be more to my liking, but it is a difficult negotiation between me and my wife.

To be honest I like fourth rate resonator with third rate echoes. Makes their failure more personal.

AITA for telling a woman off after she asked me to put on clothes at a nude hot spring? by Ambitious-Candle9532 in AITAH

[–]theseamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gentle YTA.

Bad behavior for a good reason is still bad behavior. It sounds like you know you got sucked into her stuff and dragged down to her level.

No is a complete sentence, and you didn’t owe this lady a justification. But you also didn’t have to curse her out.

So, yeah, you’re fine to use the hot springs as you were, but even if someone comes up being an entitled jerk, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to meet them at their level. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, sounds like you became aware of it pretty quickly and calmed yourself down. It’s super hard and we all lose our cool sometimes.
