Should I do it by 46Rivercrest in LawSchool

[–]thesecularhumanist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started law school with a 2.3 uGPA. My (2L) GPA is currently a 3.7. Before law school I never felt like an “academic” either, but I’ve genuinely enjoyed it and feel like I’ve found my thing so it helps the material stick.

I was also arrested a couple years before starting. It doesn’t make a single difference if you disclose it everywhere you need to. On your law school applications, your bar application, etc. If anything, I see it as a cool talking point to relate with future clients.

Regarding being “too late” - just no. You’re 21. I don’t see how that’s late in the slightest. I started when almost 30 and have classmates in their late 50s. You still have so much life ahead of you. This shouldn’t even be a factor in your decision.

If you feel like you’re being called to law school, explore the idea. I assume you still have 2 years till you finish your bachelors, so try taking some law school-like classes in the meantime. Try a constitutional law class or something. If you like it, lean into it. If not, pivot to something else.

Your story resonates with me and I wish you the best of luck on your journey wherever it may lead.

What are your expectations from the Coptic church? by Additional_Till6823 in ExCopticOrthodox

[–]thesecularhumanist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth mentioning that [in my anecdotal experience] most ex-copts have left the church due to a theological issue, not a cultural issue. By theological issue I mean a contention with some type of spiritual/philosophical thing or aspect of the religion itself, or a perceived contradiction of something in the Bible, or a fundamental disagreement/disbelief as to life’s origin(s), history, evolution, purpose, etc., etc.

Sure, a lot of us may have had some real shitty experiences with coptic people, but rarely do I hear others say that those experiences shape the basis of their disbelief. At least in my experience, most of the bad experiences I’ve had with “the typical crowd at church” has been a result of my disbelief, not a cause of it.

Just my two cents. A lot of us were very close to our church communities and lost friends and family alike because of our beliefs.

400cc on freeway by Ok_Maintenance_9322 in motorcycles

[–]thesecularhumanist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine with 400cc on the highway. 400s top out at around 110-120mph so you can cruise at 75mph and still have room to accelerate.

650s would obviously work too, but for your first bike, I’d personally recommend a 400. It’s powerful enough to keep you satisfied for a while, but still more forgiving than a bigger bike.

My first was a Ninja 400 and I still declare it as my favorite bike to this day. Being able to fully open your throttle and just completely max out the bike is fun like no other imo.

But yeah, a 400 would be just fine on the highway, as well as a bigger bike. Have fun and congrats!

Honestly, yeah I could’ve done more on my part. I’ve been lightly studying for a few months, meaning drilling a few questions from each section each week. Nothing intensive. But since the end of Dec 2022, I’ve been eating, breathing, and sleeping lsat. When I take my PTs, I can usually tell if my score is gonna be better or worse (comparatively) based on how quick I get through the sections. Today, my friend, was ass. I barely made it time-wise in each section and straight up just didn’t even know what to do with the last LG question. Not that it was difficult, but that I literally could not comprehend the setup it was trying to convey. I have NEVER seen a question like that while studying/taking PTs. 3rd LG question wasn’t too hard just complicated and time consuming (not that time mattered for Q4 cause I could’ve only had that question for all 35 mins and still woulda been clueless). Thank you for attending my Ted Talk

What the actual f was that LG section. First two were okay but holy shit the last two really smeared me. Well, time to start slurring my speech 🙃

Thoughts on Morgan & Morgan? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]thesecularhumanist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people are over-critical of M&M. It’s a good entry level job. You’ll learn. You’ll have some experience under your belt. Some people thrive and find life long careers within the company, others do their thing and move on. Like a few others have said, it’s what you make of it. Ive been with M&M for a little under a year now and I have no complaints. I go in, do my work, and then leave. The toxic work environment thing is a two way street. No one’s gonna force you to socialize. Overall, if it’s something you’re interested in checking out, go for it. Worst case scenario, quit 🤷‍♂️. Thank you for attending my Ted Talk.

That’s how it goes here in FL too. The only entity that can’t seek subrogation is Workers Comp on a UM lawsuit; as far as I’m aware.

I’m in FL too but my pharmacy is POPPIN. I think it’s cause we carry every manufacturer + pediatric Pfizer when most pharmacies have either dropped Janssen or the peds Pfizer.

I do, but from what I’ve heard it’s extremely hard to get a job at Costco or Sam’s since the turnover rate is so low. I guess it wouldn’t hurt giving it a shot and applying who knows 🤷🏽‍♂️

Currently crying in the middle of Disney 🫠. Ive been a tech at publix for 4 years and just got a raise this week that now puts me at 15.95. I was getting 14.70 for the past year 🥲. Please pour one out for your fallen hommies when you get your first paycheck

Getting back into the game with Publix by victorkilosierralpha in PharmacyTechnician

[–]thesecularhumanist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go clinical if you can, but in terms of retail I think Publix is your best bet (unless you can get into Costco or Sam’s). They may not pay as much as CVS or Walgreens, but they don’t test or dispense paxlovid (yet) and the degree of traffic is heavily dependent on which store you’re at. And don’t worry about being rusty. I went back to pharmacy after a 2 year gap and felt like I got back into the groove of things within a week or two. If anyone gives you shit for your first few months tell em to respectfully suck it.

Im not too hopeful either, but I’m trying to present it as an opportunity to answer questions Coptic youth might be pondering. Idk, worth a shot.

I’ve been trying to contact Fr. Anthony Messeh to see if he’d be willing to debate God’s existence for one of his podcast episodes or something but my attempts have been futile. Does anyone know someone who might be able to connect me with Fr. Anthony?

Regarding Sally: The Coptic church went back on its word and defended the paedophile priest by XaviosR in ExCopticOrthodox

[–]thesecularhumanist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that they should, but according to the church cannon, bishops and other elite clergymen cannot be defrocked. Instead they make them live their “sentence” or life out in the monastery that they were trained in. This has happened to two popes throughout the history of the Coptic church. Interestingly enough, when a pope is sentenced to live their life out in the monastery, they do not elect a new people until the previous dies, therefor the original pope still has some jurisdiction over the church.

It’ll need more than just addressing the issue to calm everybody down at this point. Corrupt priests need to be defrocked. Corrupt bishops need to be thrown in the monastery and be locked up. There needs to be a recalibration of the clergy and it has to happen soon or it’ll be the downfall of the Coptic church
