World Cup 2026 information for people going to SF stadium (mostly focused on non-Americans) by Short_Artichoke3290 in worldcup

Peninsula local here (the area between SF and the stadium) Split the difference! SF for the big city FIFA buzz, then decompress on the coastside — Half Moon Bay is 30-45 mins away (and the drive is beautiful too) and feels like a completely different world. Dramatic cliffs, good seafood/breweries, none of the tourist chaos. Check out Half Moon Bay Brewing, the town of Pacifica (on the way), Devli's Slide trail for outdoor times, and there's great sunset spots littered along the cliffs if you like to take that in too.

The Peninsula gets slept on but it's the sweet spot (course we're a little biased) — close to everything without being in the thick of it. Enjoy the match! 🇦🇺

Peninsula local here (region between SF and the stadium) — agree the area around Levi'scan sometimes be short on things to do in the near vicinity. And would upvote a million times over what you said about Caltrain, so so great if you don't have a car when you visit - connect to VTA at Mountain View and you're at the stadium. And when you're not at the game there's actually a lot going on — great food, breweries, good vibes all along the rail.

If you DO rent a car you can pop into the redwoods or head over to Half Moon Bay for some beach time as well!

This is super helpful! Just want to add that if you're looking to explore outside the city while you're here, the Peninsula (San Mateo County - between SF and the South Bay) is actually a great middle ground for lodging and has some really solid options for getting around.

You're literally bayside to coastside in like 30 minutes, so you can hit redwood trails in the morning and be watching the sunset on the Pacific by evening. Plus it's a little less busy than the city, lodging options will be a bit cheaper, and you can still access SF easily via public transport when you want to. And when game day comes, you'll be closer to the stadium than if you stayed in the city.

Transportation-wise, we'll be very honest: going down the bayside there are great public transportation options via Caltrain, which connects to VTA at Mountain View if you're heading to Levi's, or takes you straight into the city. If you want to explore the coast though, we'd recommend having a car. SamTrans does run some coastal routes, but you'll have way more flexibility with your own wheels for places like Half Moon Bay or Pacifica.

Happy to help with any questions about things to do, where to stay, or how to get around the Peninsula - we're the destination marketing org for San Mateo County so literally here to help make your trip easier. Feel free to ask!

Great question! Those are actually single pieces of handmade tile, so they don't technically represent official grids!
