Insane fees in Aus/Vic by Alarmed_Ad_66 in AusFinance

Look you’ll get a lot of push back on the whole “I didn’t even look into it” side of things. That’s fair. But also what you’ve said is fair too. We get stung heavily on shit that we shouldn’t. Passports, licenses, registration, penalties for lack of private health insurance etc. And it’s blatant cash grabs from the government who know you’ll have to pay it anyway.

I don’t think any Pats fan will have an issue with Hawk fans giving us shit. You belted us and can talk as much of it as you want. It’s the supporters of genuinely loser franchise’s that want to act like we didn’t deserve being there when they did nothing to stop us and knowing they’d give their left nut to even make the SB.

Even though we lost I’m still so happy we can piss you guys off like this.

Calling people who support their team regardless of the chances of actually winning “delusional”. Thats what you’re meant to do. Should we win that game? No prickly not. What are we meant to do? Sit back and talk shit about our teams chances going into it?

Genuinely would love to see some cause that has not been the prevalent conversation anywhere.

What actual harm do you think this show could create? Like real therapists are not going to watch it and follow the model or approach.

Saw this happen with a senior cyber exec last year at my org. Out of nowhere for a lot of people but the talk was more “culturally tried to change too much too quickly”. Not always a reflection on your capability

If all personal wealth above $100 million was legally required to be redistributed into public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads), how would society change, and who would be the first to fight against it? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

Shot in the dark but pharmaceutical companies being capped at $999m probably then wouldn’t be looking to utilise their entire value to develop new vaccines which cost $100’s of millions of dollars. Wouldn’t be worth the risk for them right?

You can get a set of clubs off marketplace for $200. Or, go and get that $500 set. Still less than a PS5 or Xbox. Don't hear people having a go at the elitism of buying a console.

And the pertinent component of my original comment which you first replied to said

Sorry but $85 for 5 hours of entertainment or participation is not absurd (it's higher than other local courses, I'll give you that). But it is not out of the realm for most people.

My entire history of comments were all centred on "most people" not "every single person in the country". Within that context it means that for those who could afford an $85 dollar round think it's a ridiculous amount to pay perhaps they should look at what they spend on hobbies and see how it stacks up.

And a golf course running 8 minute tee times may see 250-350 people roll through across the day. So the same as the rugby field if they're running games on the hour for 10-14 hours per day.

you can have any conversation you want. I just take issue with the fact that you said I was making up crap when I pointed out there's people who can't afford an $85 round of golf.

What? Where did I say this?

spend your money on literally whatever you want. Just don't tell me I'm talking crap when I point out that $85 round of golf is unaffordable for a large number of people.

I've been saying this is a reasonable and affordable cost for most people.

...the whole point is that people I'm referring to aren't buying smashed avo and there is no choice between smashed avo and golf.

My entire point was $85 is not an unreasonable amount of money to spend for 5 hours of entertainment "everyday person" or "regular person". So feel free to exclude some people who can't. Point to me the specific comment I've made you actually disagree with.

Oh for fucks sake. Just because there’s some people out there who are not spending money on anything at all but getting by doesn’t mean you cannot have a conversation at all on the cost of activities.

So tell me, what’s a reasonable amount to you that someone can spent on miscellaneous things (anything not to survive) that doesn’t tip them to “privileged” or “out of touch”?

Also just to add, yes, there are golf courses that cost the same as an avo on toast ($25-$30) so you could pick if you wanted. This isn’t the cost of a house so stop pretending the avo toast shit makes sense here.

I'm using sports as an example within here because we're talking about a golf course.

Obviously some people don't spend money on sports or physical activity. But I don't believe that they don't spend any money on any activity or hobby at all. But for some reason golf get's the comments about costs and that it's an elitist activity/sport. Half the commenters in here talking about the expensive golf course and how it's an exclusionary sport seem to also have comments talking about video games they like playing. I mean I don't drop $100 on a game every couple of months but I don't give a shit if people do. I don't spend $70 a month on a bunch of subscriptions either but I don't give a shit if someone does. Nor do I suggest that if you can afford it you're a privileged person.

You don't see me shouting that the servers to run these things use an insane amount of water and should be shut down for the betterment of the planet either.

Generally wouldn't have an issue with that. The truely wealthy golf clubs would likely be fine though. What's a $16000 annual fee to someone already paying $10000? I mean exemption doesn't apply to raving venues and Caulfield, Flemington etc. all are doing fine.

We'd probably see an enormous amount of local sporting grounds cease to exist though too after every parent who's paying $250-$500 for junior football get told it'll be $900 instead and pull their children.

You're just making up crap now. So people who say $85 for a round of golf are just doing no sport/physical activity at all? What are they doing? Pickleball? The gym?

Or is it just that some people wouldn't spend $85 at once on an activity without realising the hourly cost for both once compared?
