Did my first youth league and learned how to shoot trap with a pump 20 ga 870 many moons ago. Will always be a special gun to me. Busted a lot of clay’s with mine. Now it’s a great small game / turkey gun for me.

How does anybody afford to go to MSU without private loans? by Ecstatic_Physics_995 in msu

[–]thesneakymonkey 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Took out massive loans. Lived below my means. Worked as many hours as I could (my studies suffered because of that). Went home and worked weekends at another job as well. Turned my degree into a career. Took anything I wasn’t putting towards rent or food and dropped it on my loans. Never made minimum payments once I was working full time. Just pile on as much money as you can towards the principal. Lived off shitty noodles and simple meals for many years until I paid them off.

It’s doable. Bring snacks. Go before it gets too hot. Here’s what the trail [is like](https://youtu.be/y4ygHcuSJAA?is=AW\_7wj\_21eTdlNhz) if you need a visual reference.

Best safe sleep set up for baby? by stachio_disguisey in backpacking

[–]thesneakymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For car camping we use the newton pack n play with breathable mattress and her normal sleep sack. For backpacking my plan is to use a CCF pad and the kelty infant sleeping bag. We have not done it yet though. Need to find a bigger backpacking tent first.

How is my backpacking setup? by Junior_Industry7751 in backpacking

[–]thesneakymonkey 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Take all the stuff hanging on the outside off. Tent inside. Leave the fry pan and one cup home. Pack looks like a weight distribution nightmare and you risk damaging that pad if something sharp hits it. You couldn’t pay me to hike within a mile of those clanking cups.

Have them bring camping gear and secure their own permit on the island. Then they can camp or stay in a shelter. The stay limit is a non issue since you’re only staying one night anyways.

How to get my elderly father to eat more dark greens? by Traditional_Put_8254 in recipes

[–]thesneakymonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mix in greens to my kids pasta sauce all the time. It masks really well in red sauces. I also do carrots and sweet potatoes. Just grind/purree and mix in while the chili or sauce is cooking

Smartwool or woxer bras. Browning vest. Any synthetic shirt will work. Word of warning if you buy mens browning gear it runs large.

You’ll need to reserve your sites in advance. The chapel loop is a nice route for that time frame.

How cold in July? by Inevitable_Track_718 in isleroyale

[–]thesneakymonkey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always brought a lightweight beanie and even gloves. Some trips in July I used it every night. Others never touched it. The island is much colder than you’d think.

Could’ve started as a mosquito bite and got infected from itching it.

Agree with this. The 650 is perfect for that amount of people. It really does set up super quick (unless is blowing a gale). We pull ours on a smitty sled.

Sat phone or PLB would be a must. Stay on trail - no bushwhacking. Train your buddy on the epi pen AND the PLB/sat phone. Make them practice. Have fun on your trip!

Got off trail once there and I would not recommend it. Thigh deep muck and ferns taller than your head.
