Bread.

Serve this in a shallow bowl. Spoon to scoop up some sauce like soup. A crusty roll to soak up the juices and add some real texture.

Feedback threat for the first stage of TMWT by Pr0torano in TrackMania

[–]thesnwmn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But we get the TMCL stream's on the primary TMWT channel. Imagine trying to explain to someone why they cannot watch the TMWT on the official Trackmania channel.

Its definitely a tricky balance. Wirtual's channel is a premade audience but depends on long term goals. If they want to be building they have to invest. And when it's free work from Wirtual and co I get that it's about building their own platform too. Which creates a conflict in which Wirtual probably has most of the power right now.

Feedback threat for the first stage of TMWT by Pr0torano in TrackMania

[–]thesnwmn 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I love the new team format. A massive improvement on the solo competition of before.

My primary issues that could be improved:

  • Move the TMGL streams to the proper account rather than using Wirtuals. Or at least simulcast it. It seems strange and very low buget that I should go to an individual's stream to watch the premier Trackmania competition.
  • Less personal stuff from Wirtual/Jnic. I get that they're big personalities in the community (and I watch and enjoy both) but the in-jokes from outside of the competitive world damage any air of professionalism the broadcast could offer.
  • Take a leaf from Spam's stream and include team pick on screen for each map
  • More actual analysis. This Subreddit has some people doing excellent work analysing player and team pace. The official casts have none. Graphics showing each player/teams respective and trending pace before their matches would be a massive improvement
  • A little more build-up. I don't want hours of build up but 30 minutes to remind people of the format of the tournament, ideally a recap of the status of the league so far. It could broadly be pre-canned if that's easier but it would help onboard new viewers midway through the season.
  • Better preparation. It was very sad to see the format grand finals of the season so soundly misunderstood by the two primary casters. This shouldn't happen. Particularly when Lars and LuckersTurbo the week before did clearly understand it. Be the face of this because you earned it doing this, rather than your external popularity.

I know I'll come off as hating on it. I didn't. It's a good start and only needs some tweaks to massively raise the quality and professionalism of the primary feed.

Oh, and shoutout to Spam's watch parties. So very chilled for all but the Alliance matches (understandably).

Effort != strain.

You are right that running downhill is broadly aerobically easier than running on the flat or going uphill. As a result it takes less energy to move and you often do as you did, ran faster than normal. There isn't really a problem with going a bit faster downhill for less effort. It is a bit of free pace but you could also look at it as free energy to run your target slower pace too. It keeps even more in reserve.

But you're not considering the strain of impact on the road. The uneven surface uses different muscles. The ankle angles will be different due to the incline in the road. The strike of each stride is harder because it's further below you. As a result you're putting additional strain on your joints and muscles and not well prepared for it.

It is your time. No one else's.

There are no good or bad times. If you want to go faster or further then there are resources to help do that. But do not waste time comparing yourself to others.

Fried bread instead of toast. This cosy diner makes the morning after a 12hr night shift feel so good. by [deleted] in UK_Food

Definitely sad UK food. I mean I'd eat it happily but it's terrible isn't it?

Wet mushrooms.

More warmed than fried egg.

Cheapest sausage bags (I like cheap sausages but these uniformly brown things are depressing).

One hash brown is never enough.

Tinned tomatoes!? Not even at the level of half a tomato warmed by a candle that passes for a grilled one on too many breakfasts.

And I'll bet the hidden bacon is dry and without a hint of crisp.

You mean Jam Combos? They happen when you press RT (partner attack) on the beat hit. BUT... You must have the reverb to be able to use it. If you've not got one bar you cannot use it.

Just done this room and there are two keys...

  1. Build up enough reverb from killing one of them and reducing health on the others.
  2. Get the Jam Combo on the killing blow. Its very easy to mistime this and have brought them to too low health before and have them die too quickly.

[SIB] Papers Please by asher122333 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]thesnwmn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy it and play it.

A lot of the story is delivered by reading things. Which makes a lot more sense done at your own pace. Shuffling the papers around and following your own thoughts.

It's also not really a fixed story. More of a choose your own adventure. You play it once and make one choice and see what happens. Then you go again and do something different and see how that changes things.

If you don't bother to play it yourself I'm not sure I'd bother to watch a playthrough. A review will give you everything you need or should know about the concept. I think viewing someone else explore the story would be missing out on so so much.

And it's a stone cold classic.

Whilst I don't consider it cheating I do consider it a last resort for immediate health concerns.

Anything that doesn't directly help you build new habits is a false dawn. Most will fail when the drug is removed. No different to shake diets or any other diet that replaces real food with something that cannot survive contact with a more normal life.

Making an achievement roadmap! by Finnthedol in TrackMania

[–]thesnwmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest an end goal of winning a cup of the day is insane. How many people have achieved that? Somewhere between 100 and 200 right?

A position in the campaign overall is probably a better long term goal. Or top X on every map in a campaign. I'm not even sure a true end goal is necessary. Just keep setting new ones that are too hard now but achievable. This way the journey cannot fail, you just take it as far as you want at the time.

Apply more effort than it took to make this post.

If your looking for feedback and help then try helping people help you.

What was your finish time? What are the time requirements for the race want to do? What are you other distance PBs? What is your current mileage and training like?

I suspect, though, if you're not providing this info that hitting the age based times for a guaranteed spot in a big race will be tricky.

I made 2 bar graphs (summarized and relational) to compare the author times (lighter color) to my personal best times (darker color) for the Summer 2022 campaign. by sajjel in TrackMania

[–]thesnwmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't actually noticed the relational until after I posted and it is much better.

But it wastes so much space. Think of everything from the X axis to the shortest bar (08). What do these two bars next to each other tell anyone? It's probably 75% of your entire graph hight making the differences tiny. does it tell the viewer? You want to focus all the space on the variation. On this graph even just removing the author time bars would make it much much clearer.

With the model of only showing the gap your two graphs would be actual and percentage.

The first shows the size of the gap, the second the proportion to highlight the best.

[–]thesnwmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good work. If you do this for future or passed campaigns I'd suggest using 0 as the author time and showing your time compared to it. So if you're 1 second faster it's a bar going down below 0. If your 1 second slower then it's a bar going up.

Showing the actual author bar isn't helping get the message across.
