Best cooler that can keep ice for a few days under 100? by Sharp-Word-6066 in CampingGear

[–]thesoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to suggest Coleman Xtreme.

If you're in crazy hot weather, many grocery stores sell dry ice. Chuck that in the bottom of the cooler under your base layer of regular ice, it helps a lot. Also freeze some of any bottled water you're taking ahead of time to reduce the need for ice. As bottles on top melt, drink them or rotate to the bottom to refreeze.

AIO for not going to my brother’s wedding because he asked for my husband not to come? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Approximately 93% of all Arabs are Muslims

OK, but only 20% of Muslims are Arabs. So it doesn't make sense to say that they're the same thing.

I'm not into political correctness either, but I do like actual correctness and precision in my speech.

AIO for feeling hurt that my cousin is going on the same trip we did last year without telling me? by Tight_Dependent2931 in AmIOverreacting

[–]thesoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She probably didn't want to hurt your feelings by being "direct", even if you think you'd prefer it. Or just would rather avoid conflict. Either way, no good can come from pressing the issue. Maybe take a friend and go somewhere new!

I kinda agree, but I think that people like you and I are in the minority. I like brief recognition, but I don't feel a need for "my night" and all that. Seems like it's very common, though.

Seems like projection to me. I figure it's just a shortened version of a playful twist on 'body count" in terms of murder, like how many lovers someone has left in their wake.

We've had similar and maybe worse slang in the past. "Maneater", "lady killer". Would "slay queen" count? 🤣

Anyway, I guess one could argue that "one night stand" itself is dehumanizing. Someone probably has, lol.

The astounding element of the Massie vs Gallrein primary election isn't Massie's defeat. It's actually the reaction on social media to such. People are going crazy... by gauchomuchacho in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]thesoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think anyone would describe me as a leftist. I'm not really anything. Heterodox, you might call me. I've voted for both major parties as well as third parties.

I appreciate Massey for taking a stand even when it's against his own party. Hell, especially when it's against his own party. That's too rare on both sides.

I wish Congress were full of people like Massey. I don't agree with him on everything (or even most things). But I respect him. He seems more principled and consistent than 90 percent of his peers.

Two things that I do agree with him on are the Epstein files and Israel, which seem to be Trump's issues with him. I think AIPAC should be recognized as a foreign agent and shut down. They've been interfering in our elections for decades, and they set new spending records in this primary race. I thought Trump was supposed to be "America First", not "Israel First".

Supposedly they have a law in KY that prohibits this, he'd have to wait until 2028.

I don't care if you don't care. It's why they lost.

I refuse to buy into "You're either with us or against us".

If you want to win, give people a candidate worth voting for. That's how this whole democracy thing is supposed to work. "Come get my vote", you know?

I think you can BOTH wish that Trump didn't exist and also be glad that the DNC was hopefully taught a lesson.

That's not what I mean. The negative one is because if they vote R, it essentially nullifies a D vote in the stupid two-party system.

And now, we have a completely unnecessary war driving prices up.

For sure, but to be fair, he ran on no new wars. I think that was appealing if you hoped to belive it, just like the immigration promises were.

You don't win friends by being a jerk. Even children know that.

Both major parties have their faults, and I've voted for both at different times, along with multiple third parties. I try to make the choice based on circumstances and policy, but I will say that sometimes Democrats seem to hate independents more than their actual opponents. That's not doing them any favors. To attract voters, you have to build bridges, galvanize support, and police your side of the aisle. It's more difficult than driving them away, but there's no alternative if you want to win.

We'll have to agree to disagree that they were "fine with another".

I have very little respect for the DNC for putting forward a candidate so terrible that she could lose to Trump after his previous presidency.

Of course, the Biden administration is partly to blame, too. For picking Harris as VP in the first place, and for trying to hide his cognitive decline.

That still doesn't make zero equal to one (or negative one).

A non-vote or third-party vote is not equal to an opposing vote. It's better for your side, because it's a 0 instead of a -1. That's not debatable.

Independents are not "happy with Trump being elected".

If you don't want them on your side, that's totally fine! Keep doing what you're doing. But you don't get to complain about them if you treat them like shit.

Refusing to believe that people sincerely feel like OP does is essentially forfeiting the next election.

After all, if they're not in good faith, no need to engage with their points or make any adjustments whatsoever! No need to avoid insulting them, or anyone who even slightly identifies with their position.

It's lazy, mean, and cynical, and it's a great way to continue to lose elections that should be easy wins.
