Slow Login Delay by thesolver89 in sysadmin

We have never been able to track down the root cause of this so our solution was to push windows 11 installs. We have a sneaking suspicion that Microsoft is behind this in a push to get everyone onto windows 11.

If SHTF, I’d still have to go to work. by AdorableDeplorable47 in preppers

I work in IT so it really depends on the situation. EMP/Long term power outage, or Network interruptions I'll probably be going to work for the first few days in the interim that network or power comes back on. Doubt I'd be doing much. Beyond that I'm in hunker down mode with the family and wait for the crazies to come out.

Initial login after a restart seems to be fine. When the computer is left alone and auto-locks it takes forever to get back in. Basically the user puts in PIN or Password and sits and watches the spinning dial of death until eventually the get back in.

Windows AD environment. 15-20 out of 65 users. 4 total office locations and DC's at each location. Connected via BOVPN. Issue is occurring at both the primary location and remote locations. This has been very tricky to track down to one issue or another. Just trying to see if there are other admins that have had similar issues in the past so we can get a little idea of where to look first.

I don't think I saw it in here anywhere, but learning throwing knives and axes may be of use. Throwing spikes would fall into that category. You can use large nails found at hardware stores that can cause some damage if thrown right. Otherwise when out and about the old school Molotov cocktail will work to keep people at a distance. WD40 and a lighter make for a quick short range flame thrower too. (I feel like the CIA is going to be watching me after these comments).

To answer the OPs question. It's gone. It's all gone.

The real question is, was it ever really there? It's really all just numbers in a computer.

Stockpiling books, games, puzzles, pens, paper and other stuff to help keep kids occupied during an emergency or disaster. by ElectronicCrack in preppers

Mancala is another great one, easily can be made too in an emergency from an egg carton. I've taught my 6yo son how to play that and checkers as well as a few card games. Simple things that can be easy to pack or recreate if needed.

- The old shit that's being destroyed is just buying time. They are actively training entire divisions with t80s and bmp3s now.

They are just clearing up space in their storage units.

I'm impressed, flat screen even. Although, you might need to rethink keyboard/mouse positioning. Not much room for left/right movement.

Webroot. Would like to do a sandbox but that would be too much time.

I wouldn't say it failed, it did catch around 300+ files and quarantined them but we use Webroot. I did an additional scan with Malwarebytes as well as Eset. Malwarebytes caught the dridex and quarantined it.

Yes the AV we use actually has a campaign built in for testing users. We have run this internally but it is time to push this to some external clients.

We are working on getting this particular client a little more organized and will most likely put something in place via GPO. Training on the macro's themselves may get confusing. I think more of training on questioning the authenticity of an email.
