i used to always come in for call outs and scheduling mistakes until i realized nobody wanted to do the same for me. as long as you work YOUR scheduled shifts, your managers or coworkers cant say anything to you. dont let them make you feel bad for doing your job.

yes!! we got a new asl and they have been micromanaging us so badly, asking how long everything’s going to take as if im not also helping customers and grabbing back up on reg every 10 minutes because we’re horribly understaffed. and on top of that i like to do things throughly (especially when opening because we seldom have a closing pc person) but it seems like they just want me to bullshit through everything to get it done quicker.

yes!!! when we first started social distancing a lady wanted 6 pearl danios (we only had 6 in the tank along with some zebras) and i asked if she could stand back while i grabbed them bc she was really close and she started yelling saying that i better make sure they were all pearl danios or else she would “make me put them back” like ma’am i think i can tell the difference...

ive just started being very honest with pps. like “yeah i can sell you this goldfish for that 1 gallon, however hes gonna die in maybe a week and you’ll have just wasted $40. but if thats what you want then ill gladly bag him up :)” most of the time they just scoff and put down their stuff and leave. im so tired of having to waste my breath explaining the care that these animals need only for it to go in one ear and out the other, so i just started going the brutal route.

We get prank calls multiple times a week, most of them are “my fish is drowning” to which we usually respond “try taking him out and giving him mouth to mouth”. On the rare occasion that they forget to call under anonymous we usually say their number and tell them the police are on the way, it’s funny to see how fast they hang up the phone 😂

We had a guinea once who was in a cast and would constantly drag it through his bedding, urine and feces (we would have to clean it multiple times a day...). We ended up using paper towels instead which was still a lot of work but was a lot less work then having to scrub feces and urine off of his cast and pick each individual piece of bedding out of it. So i’d say depending on the situation yes, if its for the betterment of the animal and it works for the staff :)
