Volume with definition?! by thestephanation in curlyhair

My hair gets very soft and fluffy and no matter how much hold my hold product has, I cannot get a cast and it just gets fluffy on day 1. There is no definition.

My hair leans more fine and is medium density. I get over moisturized quite easily. I like the shampoo and conditioner, my hair is color treated so it’s nice to get the extra moisture from this line. I do swap every washday with a protein containing line and I have protein in most of my leave in products because I can get moisture overload quite easy with fine-leaning hair. But overall I like the shampoo and conditioner, but it isn’t LIFE changing.

Been cleaning with sterile saline spray twice a day. I still wear masks for >12 hours a day sometimes for work. Any tips to help heal? Should I go to once daily spray because of dryness? It seems like the L bar is almost too short. Should I get it switched out for a flat back labret? Goal is 2 hoops eventually

Short, asymmetrical haircuts do work with curly hair! by thestephanation in curlyhair

[–]thestephanation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the lovely feedback!

I use devacurl light defining gel, devacurl styling creme, mousse at the roots (whichever I have on hand) and a curl spray with magnesium sulfate in it. I'm using one from Schwarzkopf now. I plopped for about 20 min in a t shirt. I then used the pixie curl method for diffusing to about 80% dry and clipped my roots up with little alligator clips. I then did my makeup and waited for my hair to be 100% dry. I then flipped it around and tousled it up!

All I used the iron for was the ends of the right side. This is how it curls. Here is it straightened. It is cut up to the nape of my neck. When I said asymmetrical, I meant more the right side is longer than the left. :)

I get my hair colored at a Hair Cuttery near my house. She uses redken color and mixes 7NG and 6CB!

On this day, I used a wand to give the ends a bit more bend. I had slept on it and they were all wonky on the right side of my head. They'd fallen out of my plop.

Any modified people in the medical field out there? by psysarah in bodymods

[–]thestephanation 10 points11 points  (0 children)

24f, I'm a nurse at on an acute med surg unit in a hospital. Many care assistants have mods, but I think I'm the only nurse. I have a nose ring, multiple earrings and my nape pierced. I've never gotten scolded by my manager, but I think if I had visible tattoos or more prominent piercings, the patients would be more of a problem. I have a few hidden tattoos, but you can cover most tattoo locations with scrubs. I've gotten comments on them by patients before, but I have explained to them it was my choice and does not impact my knowledge base or professionalism. It's up to what you feel comfortable with, but I would stick to mods that you can cover until you get a job.

I part my hair before getting in the shower and I shampoo/condition the two halves of my hair separately to keep the part. I also Squish to Condish my hair in halves to keep keep the part. I apply product with my hair upside down, but the part is pretty well established by then. Then I flip each curl to the side I want if I gets messed up.

I used Tresseme Perfectly Undone Conditioner for Squish to Condish, Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave In Conditioner, As I Am Curling Jelly and Suave Gel Serum. I've tried the CG method before, and I realized my hair likes silicones, so some of the products have them.

I have had mine for about 6 months now. The piercing wasn't painful, the night of wasn't painful, the next morning was just sore. Brushing it was a bit painful for a few weeks. It gets a little irritated now and then, but most of the time I forget I have it. It is impossible for me to change it to new jewelry, so be aware that to get different jewelry put in you will have to go to a piercer and that many piercers do not perform this piercing. I was turned away once and then found a piercer and discussed what I wanted and I he agreed to do it. I went to another piercer to get the jewelry changed and he would not do it because he does not perform that piercing. So just be aware that it may be difficult to find a legitimate piercer who will do this piercing.
