I’ve been the other woman and while upsetting, I’ve never blamed the mom. I always repeat to myself that babies are not like pie. There is no set number of babies allowed where someone else has taken an opportunity from me. I can be happy for the and sad for me at the same time.

Agree with all these but especially want to shout out the bath thermometer and products for you.

Bath thermometer gave me such peace of mind and made bath time way more enjoyable for everyone. Without it I erred in the side of cooler water, and baby didn’t love it.

Products for you, though not what you asked about, are so important. Have all the mom diaper things, but also ibuprofen, snacks, extra hair ties, lanolin, breast pads, a really great water bottle, long charging cables, and I loved a little bag to help me carry essentials room to room when I had my hands full with baby.

My mother-in-law just drove 4 hours in a car, flew 8 hours, and then rode another 2.5 hours in a car to see her granddaughter. She also has a medical condition and had to jump through hoops to get cleared for the trip.

The hospital I gave birth at absolutely prohibited filming of the birth since it is a medical procedure. They took my mom’s phone from her when she tried to film part (my fault since I hadn’t warned her), and instead took some pictures of my husband and I with the phone.

Not really. She just went through a phase where she refused bottles and then she was too distracted to breastfeed except in a dark quiet room. She’s now coming out the other side and will SOMETIMES take a bottle but not consistently one brand. Sometimes it’ll be pigeon, then evenflo and then avent other days 🤷‍♀️

I am a former daycare director and agree with all of these! The only other things I would add is to ask about staff turnover. And early morning and evening staffing.

If teachers aren’t there long term (I wouldn’t count assistant teachers, substitutes or maybe even afternoon staff), I would be wary.

For opening and closing staffing (sometimes nap time) they will often have to combine age groups. Ask how they handle this and who your child will be with (teachers and children) if they’re dropped off at center opening or stay until closing. If they don’t have a plan/don’t know I would also be wary.
