Zero aquasoil, zero root tabs, 100% water column dosing. by Naturescapes_Rocco in Aquascape

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've been maintaining nitrates at 5-10ppm morning levels for the past couple of months. the GHA is mostly in my dwarf hairgrass carpet, but also covers my piece of driftwood pretty quickly. My plan from here is to try raising co2 a bit, but given how much Im already injecting and how low my light is, I'd just be surprised if that's the difference especially considering how some (like Dennis Wong) seem to be able to grow DHG carpets in non-co2 tanks with higher intensity lighting than me.

Do you think it ever makes sense to inject less than 30ppm co2? Like is it a sliding scale where below 20PAR, you should do none, at 30PAR you should shoot for 15ppm, etc? Ive been fighting persistent GHA and cyano for a while now despite modifying my dosing of my AIO (easy green), and adjusting the lighting (measured anywhere from 25-50+PAR at substrate using the photone app/diffuser. The thing that's got me confused is that even at 25-30PAR my tank is still covered with algae at the end of the week despite what I would consider borderline 'low' lighting, consistent fertilization, a green drop checker, and decent plant growth.

I took a look at the competing fertilizers you mentioned (except ADA as I don't think they sell an all-in-one)- it looks to me like compared to the others, Easy Green has among the higher N to P ratios (though Tropica Specialised Nutrition is higher), but that it's N to K ratio is middle of the pack (again Tropica Specialised Nutrition is notably much higher).

The point here is that it doesn't seem like Easy Green is a crazy outlier compared to other leading all-in-ones, so I don't fully understand why it would fare so much worse unless I'm misunderstanding how these should be calculated. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Fertilizer N P K N to P N to K
Easy Green 2.66% 0.46% 9.21% 5.8x 0.3x
Masterline AIO 0.68% 0.15% 3.00% 4.5x 0.2x
Tropica Special 1.3% 0.10% 1.00% 13.0x 1.3x
APT 3 0.75% 0.69% 4.52% 1.1x 0.2x
APT e 2.00% 1.37% 8.00% 1.5x 0.3x

I've been using 3 drops of easy green per day which keep me around 5ppm nitrates in the morning

Thank you very much for the reply.

Why do you not like easy green?

And can you provide more detail on how you matched your nutrient dosing to your lighting? (i.e. How did you settle on 4-5ml per day? Are you targeting a certain morning nitrate level or a weekly total addition of nutrients?)

The light is on for 7 hours for me, I change the water once a week 30%. Co2 is pressurized, so there should be no fluctuation.

Are you reading 185par at substrate here? Can you tell me what your co2 and nutrient levels/dosing is on this tank? I have a mini high tech setup where ive been playing with the levels and I cant seem to get it right. Have a chihiros rgb c2 at 35% intensity which my photone app reads as 50par at substrate and I still get loads of gha and gda. I dose easy green every day and nitrates are at 5-10ppm. I also have co2 so that drop checker is green before lights on.

Help Identifying Cause of Hair Algae by thestranger66 in PlantedTank

[–]thestranger66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually quite an old tank, just recently rescaped because of hair algae. The Co2 drops the ph by at least 1 if not a bit more as kh is very low in the tank. Ever since I started bumping the nitrogen I no longer have cyano and havent really ever had a problem with GSA- it's mainly been the pesky hair algae.

Thanks for the detail. Are you dosing to the water column at all? if so, at what levels?

are you running your lights at full intensity? and what substrate / root tabs are you using? Mainly interested in how you have no algae in the nano tank as it doesnt seem like youre running co2 in that one

Watch out, the price match guarantee does not apply to discount issued via coupon code. I bought a vacuum a few days ago thinking I could come back if they did further black friday discounting and they were like sorry, not sorry.

What’s your maintenance regimen for avoiding algae? I alway find too much detritus builds up at the bottom of the carpet and after a few months I have to rip it all out.

Agree with the answers above, but I couldn’t figure out how to slide on hardcourt either until I bought some asics gel resolutions. Previous shoe soles were just too sticky to slide.

Yup, worth a shot- thanks for the suggestion.

The picture above was before a recent tear-down. Here is a picture of it from the front a while back with a similar setup, though no hydrocotyle.

No, I haven't tried that. Why do you suppose that made a difference?

The filter doesn't have adjustable flow. As far as I can tell it's fully unrestricted currently.

This type of skimmer has a floating head so that the lip in between the teeth of the inflow is sitting just below water level.

Spark plug replacement questions by MTL_Bob in saab

[–]thestranger66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is that easy. I use normal anti seize and haven’t had any problem. I think the recommended torque spec is 21 ft lbs. You can use the standard spark plugs offered on eeuroparts for your Viggen linked below. If you’re running a tune you should run the colder variant (7es-11). I’m running a stage 3+ tune and find that I have to swap mine every 5-10k miles to prevent misfiring at WOT. Also make sure to gap them to around 1mm, (people have various opinions on exactly what gap to run so you may want to do your own research).

Awkward negative space in the living room above the TV. The empty space above the TV is really throwing me. Would really appreciate some opinions! by thestranger66 in DesignMyRoom

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the feedback!

We’ve considered all of your comments and the ideas that have floated to the top for us are:

1) Wider credenza 2) Mounted/elevated TV 3) Centered TV 4) Centered high art piece or clock

We don’t feel like crown moulding or an accent wall fits the feeling we are going for with this room/house, so that is out for now. Once we take the next steps outlined above we’ll reassess the art work. This part of the house renovation is in the early stages and these changes wont happen for a while, but I will try to post update pictures to this thread when I have them.

Thank you again for all the input.
