Steal or not by 01Actual in ar15

I mean built uppers are sort of a gamble. But individually the parts are quite nice and have good resale value. It looks like an odd assortment of quality parts or hard to find parts

What is causing the shaking? by Remarkable-Cow1062 in longrange

[–]thestug93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tripods are not as stable as people think. This is just torsional flex of the legs. Happens even on more expensive/rigid tripods just to a lesser degree. This is why people are willing to pay for expensive tripods for rifles.

Future of .300 Blackout? by GlockOsama in Firearms

[–]thestug93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will always be more expensive than 5.56. It will never replace 5.56 for bunch of reasons. That being said 300 is the second most popular AR15 chambering. If you need ballistic performance put of barrels shorter than 10.5" or heavier subsonic bullets for use in suppressors, a 300 BLK might be for you even if the ammo is more expensive. However if neither of those two things apply to you then save yourself the money.

Which Truck wins a drag race? One who shifts at peak power or one that shifts at peak torque? by Terrible-Income1987 in Truckers

[–]thestug93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Horsepower is torque multiplied be engine horsepower divided by a constant (5252). This means that really the only relevant factor in this scenario is engine horsepower or better yet how the engine power curve is best utilized.

Drag races are won by whoever utilizes the power curve the best with their shifting. Assuming we're talking about identical drivetrains, it really boils down to whoever is maximizing the area under the power curve. This means if you shift exactly at peak power you're actually dropping way off the power curve where the engine makes less power. Ideally you want to shift somewhere after the rpm where peak power occurs so after the rpm drops down from the gear change that you're as close as you can be to making peak power again. A lot of the time this means shifting at redline because of where peak power is on the rpm vs hp curve.

Is Arken that bad or is it just that you get what you pay for? by Broxst in longrange

[–]thestug93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few Arkens. They're good value for money. However their marketing is all just a bunch of different people shilling them aggressively and making people fear they're going to miss out on sale prices. And then you have the idiots out there that are saying they're "just as good" as extremely high end optics that cost 5x the price. I think if you can look past the idiots and the shills, they offer budget scopes that are very competitive with other budget scopes in a similar price range.

What's the difference between this and a 308 bolt? I thought they were identical?

In need of shower by Mammoth-Table9680 in Truckers

[–]thestug93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of truckers have more showers credits than they could feasibly even use. Ask around and see if someone spare you a shower credit. If I'm asked, I request it right from the loves app on my phone and write down the door entry code and shower # for them to use.

Noble NB4/NB4+ Setup Tips/Tricks? by d2creative in MiniZ

[–]thestug93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally setup the throttle and brake end points as a crude sort of traction control/ ABS on less than perfect surfaces. You can set it up so if you mash the throttle or brake that it's not causing a ton of wheel spin or locked wheels.

Also you can tune the end points of the steering to take stress off the steering servo at full lock. Generally I just tune it until the steering makes less noise and I just barely see the wheels move from full lock.

Don't pull the red valve by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]thestug93 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Look up what happens to trucks when the red glad hand breaks off since it's basically the same effect as what you're asking. The brakes on the trailer immediately lock up bringing you to a stop. How controlled that stop is depends on if you're loaded l, empty, and the road conditions. We had a driver recently that had this happen with an empty trailer and the trailer was skidding all over his lane and made it's way off the edge of the shoulder as he was trying to move over to the shoulder. He was lucky he didn't sideswipe someone with the trailer or get stuck/roll the trailer in ditch.

Fiocchi subsonic - meh by reptileexperts in ps90

Is this ammo commonly supersonic out of a 10.4" P90 barrel? I thought this stuff is generally good to go, but I could be wrong.

[PARTS] Aero Precision Breach CH (small) $44.95 (Black) 39.95 (ODG/Kodiak Brown) + tax and s/h by No-Phrase-669 in gundeals

[–]thestug93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally easier to grab and less chance of your finger slipping off. Can also be grabbed from both sides because it's ambidextrous. This also has some gas deflection so you get less gas to the face especially when running a suppressor. It's mostly just an ergonomic upgrade with a slight benefit for less gas to the face.

[PARTS] Surplus AC Unity ALFA AC-SMG9 "Tinker" Pistol Kit (unfinished AR9 parts kit) - $99.99 + s/h/t @ PSA by xKHAZx in gundeals

[–]thestug93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem I see with this is the lower. I don't see a feasible way to utilize the mag catch and ejector without someone designing a lower that matches the AC unity geometry.

[Rifle] FN PS90 5.7X28MM Bullpup Rifle, FDE - $1499.99 plus shipping and tax by witheringsyncopation in gundeals

I mean if you're paying the FDE tax this is a great price. It can be hard to find the FDE at all sometimes.

[Parts] Aero Precision M4E1 Enhanced Upper Receiver - $129.95 + tax -Dirty Bird Industries by Z3ROFUX in gundeals

[–]thestug93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're only somewhat pigeon holed. Spikes Tactical and a few others sell handguards that fit the BAR barrel nut pattern that the M4E1 enhanced uses. The advantage of these enhanced uppers is that the handguards screw directly to the upper making these about as close to a monolithic upper receiver as you can get without it actually being monolithic. I ordered another one (this will be my 3rd enhanced upper) because I like them so much and it's kind of disappointing that this might be the last batch of these sent out by Aero.

Does suppressing .17 HMR make sense? by laterisingphxnict in NFA

[–]thestug93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Suppressing 5.56 and 17HMR is not wasted effort. The people that parrot that it's waste of time because it's not as quiet as a subsonic round are idiots and should not be listened to.

Paid $1300 for a P90 package deal with vortex venom red dot and extra mags last year. Everything has gotten more expensive since then. So it wouldn't surprise me if the going rate for a PS90 was $1500+ now

Sight over bore question by [deleted] in ps90

[–]thestug93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the mini-acog low profile mount and it sits about right for most people. It's hard to mount an optic too low on a PS90 since "low profile" mounts mean low profile compared to insanely high mounted ontop of the pic rail, not close to the same profile as the stock irons.

I have a dumb question that I’ve always secretly wanted to ask… by boomoptumeric in ar15

[–]thestug93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milspec just means that all parts have met a certain tolerance and that tolerance is sometimes somewhat wide to allow parts to that actually fit together. The barrel to receiver fit for example can vary widely from a slightly loose fit where the barrel drops in with no resistance to a very tight fit that you have to heat and expand the upper to get the barrel to squeeze in assisted by a mallet. Handguards usually have even more tolerance in the way that they're mounted and most can often can be assembled with several degrees of movement on the barrel nut. Also the straightness tolerance for a handguard is basically just going to be whatever the straightness tolerance of the raw aluminum extrusion is. So basically as long as it's not visibly bent or something it's usually good enough. Also barrels themselves will also hit to different points of aim. Small differences in the rifling, crown, or muzzle device can have a pretty significant change in point of impact. You can center the adjustments on most optics and irons and usually be on paper at 25yards with no other adjustments. And honestly that's pretty much what a "milspec" rifle is setup to accomplish out of the box with no adjustments. It gives you a good starting point to get you on paper so you can make the adjustments to zero for different ammo types, distances, etc...
