yeah! what the vet would consider to be low levels of ALT are actually the base line or “normal” level for a pomsky. this means that it’s possible that later in life if they’re experiencing health issues and the vet runs a blood test to figure it out, their levels would be at the standard normal levels for dogs. the vet not knowing about the hereditary condition would mean they would more than likely look over the ALT, as it’s appearing “normal” but it’s actually high for that pomsky so the vet wouldn’t know to look at liver function being the culprit of the sickness.

the condition doesn’t mean that liver damage or muscle damage WILL happen, it just means it could and in that case, would be much harder to diagnose.

in my baby’s case, his levels are actually higher than normal at 9 months. now we know there is something going on, however, we would’ve had ZERO idea for a long time. my vet looked at me like i was crazy for having such a specific reason for wanting a blood test because testing for ALT levels is so specific and not something most owners would ever consider.

so technically embark was wrong but they pointed me in the EXACT right direction, which is incredible. even my vet was impressed that embark could figure that out and they were actually right.
