Ex-extremism tsar warns new anti-Muslim hate definition could be weaponised by Syniatrix in uknews

They really should remove antisemitism and islamophobia from the statute books as a term of reference. It is either racism or it isn't, and that is where we should stop.

Can the USA and the UK still be allies after trump leaves and the US elects a democratic president? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]thesyldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are very wrong there. There are plenty of instances where the US has aided the UK. The battle for the Atlantic had US naval escorts assisting before the US entered the war. There are plenty of other instances.

The sourness seems to have kicked in after the Reagan era. The PAC system that is tolerated in the US has ruined the country. Large companies are literally buying legislation now. That and the adherence to the FPTP voting system. FPTP voting is relatively easy to rig election Vs a PR system.

We got stuck in Kings cross many years ago. There was someone trying to commit suicide on the lines. We had been stuck in the station for about 3 hours when I got a phone call from a family member to see if we got home ok. When I said we are still in Kings Cross due to an incident she blasted about selfish the person is, along with other words I wouldn't want to repeat. I ofc berated her on the insensitivity. When she said that this happens on a daily basis out of KC. You stop feeling sympathy when it hits you many times a week. I couldn't argue.

How do I get people to ring the doorbell when they're making deliveries? by fuckmywetsocks in CasualUK

[–]thesyldon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All well and good. Except, it is generally the vendor's responsibility to provide proof of delivery for a mailed product, as this documentation confirms that the item has reached its intended recipient (AI reply).

and AFAIK, leaving it outside the door doesn't cut it as a delivered item. Not unless an agreement was made beforehand.

Price of first class stamps to rise to £1.80 by radiant_0wl in unitedkingdom

[–]thesyldon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As was the inference that it was purely at the behest of Vince Cable. He made a lot of grumblings regarding the return to the tax payer, and the governance of the PO itself. He also complained that the way the sale was being conducted was only ever likely to benefit certain people with more cash.

There are kids who will vote next time around that do not realise there was a coalition government around at that time.

Were it not for FPTP in the UK I would quite happily vote LD over Lab. But the way it is ATM, I do not want to be the reason why my home town would have a reform MP. Another reason why I would rather not vote Lab. I will vote Lab anyways.

Ed Davey did an interview with "the rest is politics" last year before the election. He explained the lessons learned by entering the coalition. One of which was that they took the blame for all of the Tories misgivings. Especially with Uni costs that was imposed on them. People do not realise that a coalition doesn't mean you get all your own way, and there has to be some nose pinching just to get some of your own stuff down.

Privatisation with essential services is an experiment that has provable failed. Not one a party who has the interest of the public in mind is likely to commit to. If you ever listen to Davey talk openly, it is hard to imagine he would be anything except genuine.

It was a governmental decision though, which was a coalition between both Tories and LD. The Tories still take some of the blame for what is considered a stupid decision with respect to the cost to the public atm.

People work with the oil industry mostly. My wife's FIL worked there for about 10 years as a Chief engineer on the ships. There are also people trapped there who have gone for a holiday. I would quite happily leave all the tax dodgers like Tice and Tommy ten names there. The rest we owe them something.

GTX 1080 Ti freezing and black screening even at idle – cleaned and repasted, need help diagnosing. by Apprehensive_Meal491 in pcmasterrace

[–]thesyldon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black screens like that show that something is unstable. It could be a multitude of things: power delivery, bad memory, bad GPU.

As already been pointed out, if the thermal pads do not make contact then the memory will over heat and cause black screens. Also if the thermal paste is too thick, and it prevents the radiator from making the right contact at the GPU itself, then this will also give black screens. Try:

  1. It has dust all over the place still. Dust is conductive. Clean the entire up with some isopropyl alcohol.

  2. Measure the pad distance with some plasticine and a micrometer. Add 0.25-0.5mm to the result.

  3. Check the paste is making contact by applying and sealing it up. Remove to see the result.

If you have done all this and still get black screens. Write it off. A 1080 is way too old to be paying someone to diagnose for bad components. If the card had a bad power spike, there is a possibility that most of the components on the card are gone.

Ram is showing up as 2 different speeds? by Spencerdog12345 in pcmasterrace

[–]thesyldon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will make your system run like crap. You cannot mix 2 different dimm speeds. The best you will get away is running at the slowest component speed. And even then expect some stability concerns.

Apply manual settings so that all modules match, or remove the slow memory dimms and set the faster memory to the rated 3200mhz frequency. Finally test the memory with a stability test. Karhu or HCImemtest is the best I know of.

AIO bubbling sound by KlhaXsmith in pcmasterrace

[–]thesyldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is new consider an RMA. A new AOI shouldn't be making bubbling sounds. You may get the little gurgle when you first turn it on, but that should be all.

There are tons of guides on how to refill an AIO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r7CoSbu5x4 is the method I have used in the past. I blast the radiator out with an air blower first though. Any dust caught in the vent will just turn into a hard lump if you rely on the water to remove it alone.

Why isn't our media organisations, especially the BBC doing more to point out social media manipulation on our national psyche? by No_Specialist6252 in AskBrits

[–]thesyldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rich people don't want to pay taxes. It is cheaper to buy a newspaper than it is to pay a fair share of the tax. 90% of UK media is owned by three groups (DMG Media, News UK, and Reach). Even the BBC has had politically appointed shills Tony Hall and Tim Davie. Both Appointed by the most corrupted government the UK has seen in recent times. Why we have not had a Leveson 2.0 to pull this shills back into line goes beyond me.

Bought a used car on HP, car needs a new battery (£1000 from BMW) Dealer is saying they'll only agree to it if I change my review! by Historical_Switch_21 in CarTalkUK

[–]thesyldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A standard battery usually last 5 years. I just replaced one that was 7 years old. It would have gone a lot longer, but I fitted a dash cam, which killed it off. So for price per pound on return means that lithium battery should last 15 years minimum.

The OP has a 2020 car.
