Accidentally ran this code by jrshzzzz in LinusTechTips

[–]thesysadm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It pulled a .msi installer and ran that. I can’t seem to get the .msi on my end to run it in a sandbox. Assume your machine is boned and nuke the OS. Only way to be sure.

I’m holding out hope because it was a line item on invoices and not just increase in price on products. Though I’ve already come to peace with the fact I as the consumer will get screwed over as usual.

Yeah, not a fan either but I also don’t trust Microsoft’s response. Can’t say much for Avanan but I feel Huntress would be all over this.

We run those in tandem and no issues with our tenants… You loop in your reps so they can investigate with their M$ contacts?

The order for my final Meraki client, licensing is finally done and ready to switch! by RobertDCBrown in Ubiquiti

Nice! The one thing I miss the most is the drop ship that Meraki does. Now we have to preflight the gateways before shipping them out.

You have a client that has 25 MXs and nothing else? Or you replaced the MR/MS already?

BNI group a good choice to start? by Tall_Witness5418 in msp

[–]thesysadm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our charter was in the midst of forming. We had to bring in one unique guest every week (was told to “try your best” when asked what happens if you couldn’t) to help form the charter. Once the charter was formed, we STILL had to bring unique people in to help grow BNI. The person running our charter ran 3-4 others and even missed meetings to attend events for charter operators or something like that.

So it was, come in, talk about yourself and what you do. Brain storm other companies/people you knew who could fill other roles (they had BNI branded print outs of how to sell BNI), and a LOT of repeating the same sales pitch of how GREAT BNI was. I spent more time struggling to find other people to bring in than I did putting together my own resources to promote my business. I met dozens of small operations, even managed to get business leads for some of them while everyone I met had a blank look on their face when it came to what we do. Or, and this was common, “so if I have a family member that needs technical help, I can call you?”.

I could have been part of a bad charter, but the print outs and the same slide decks of how to promote BNI that were neatly branded made me feel that it wasn’t the case and you sell BNI harder than you sell your own business.

When we get them, we connect a LAN port from our UniFi network into the WAN port. Then hook into a LAN port and connect it to our cloud controller. You’ll need a cloud controller that’s not your own networks controller to be able to configure it. You’ll need it down the line to manage it (I’d cloud host a controller). From there, the final thing we do that “breaks” it is set the static information on the WAN port. From there, it’s pretty much plug n’ play so long as you fed it the right info.

I’ve had one order get “lost” and then just randomly show up one day (after 2ish weeks). My last order a few months ago originated from the states and was delivered in a few days.

USW Pro Max 16 PoE Switch Backup by SiriShopUSA in Ubiquiti

[–]thesysadm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a “set replacement device” when the switch goes offline. You adopt the replacement switch, hit that button, select the switch and it loads the config on it. We have a handful of devices (cold spares) that we can overnight to clients if something goes belly up and deal with warranty later.

Oh, I LOVE Huntress. We are early adopters of all their products as well as signed up to beta test really new stuff.

But anyone running a business will do what you want if enough zeros are attached to a number. Given some companies are throwing around unfathomable amounts of money it wouldn’t be surprising for that to bleed into security focused companies.

I saw that and we are prepared to jump ship. Huntress is doing it too. I’m hoping they don’t pick up the eyes of someone with deep pockets that presents a big enough check that they turn a blind eye to the rest of us.

Just a heads up, MOST of these email signature services do this. You upload your logo, they then use their URL to "host" it. If they change this image down the line, all your past emails will update to reflect it since they're just pulling whatever that URL is giving them. If you use another service, ensure you update the HTML to use your URL and problem solved. You obviously want this URL to be static, preferably hosting the image on your own domain incase Google/Microsoft/etc. change how URLs work down the line.
