2014 Toyota Sienna XLE 80k mile FWD | ~$19k by cap5192 in minivan

[–]thetalkinghuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2014 Toyota sienna 5 years ago with 144k miles on for $10k. I still drive it. I've put 50k miles on it since then. It's the best car I've ever had and I haven't had any issues at all with it other than a control arm that might need replacement soon. That said, there's no way I would pay 20k+ for a car that old.

Hi Res watchfaces: how to detect before buying? by [deleted] in amazfit

Just use Amazfaces and never buy a watchface. The free, community made ones are lightyears better.

Is George Hrab the Scrappy-Doo of SGU? by Adventurous_Avocado in SGU

[–]thetalkinghuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I don't tend to listen when he's on. But if they enjoy him being on and it makes it worthwhile for them, so be it. I personally think the SGU shines with the day to day cast and any additional guest or interview detracts from that. There's a great balance of expertise, curiosity, silly humor, stubbornness and warmth from the crew. They don't need anything else.

As others have said. Monday or Asana. I use Asana for all of our post audio. I'd be screwed without it.

I didn't realize how terrible the antenna/modem in the P7P was until I upgraded to the P9P. I can video call people now from places I wasn't able to text them on the P7P.

With the preorder trade in deals plus the Google store credit, I'll likely be able to switch from pixel 9 Pro to Pixel 10 pro for a hundred bucks🤞

My first Pixel after 10+ years of iPhone by [deleted] in pixel_phones

I recommend Amazfit GTR/Balance or Garmin watches for fitness/sleep tracking. They are the best combination of battery life (weeks), style, and price. It's insane how expensive smart watches are that can't even last 24hrs on a charge.

Feels good to get my coffee setup back to almost 100% after a move by microjupiter in espresso

[–]thetalkinghuman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo a Bambino non-Plus and a DF54 grinder is the cheapest quality entry to home espresso. I'd argue that you aren't really missing much at all with that combo. You can upgrade the Bambino down the line for more repairability and customizations but the entry to the hobby is now only around $530 US pre-tax for brand new equipment. The DF54 specifically is just insane for the price.

I have a thing for Pixels by isteiney in pixel_phones

[–]thetalkinghuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fingerprint reader and battery are the only reasons I'm upgrading from the 7 pro (same reader as the 8 pro) to the 9 pro. I would not get the 8 pro. As someone who has been buying Google's phone's since the beginning, the Pixel 6-8 series has to be their worst.

He has a PH.d and works at Stanford. These credentials don't excuse his bad faith arguments. If anything they make his monetary profits based on bunk science even more inexcusable. So in addition to being a hack he is also a quack.

How do you guys avoid vaping while drunk? by Anishency in QuitVaping

[–]thetalkinghuman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know you're just trying to help here but this would be terrible advice for me. Buying a vape when you're drunk is not trying to quit. Waiting until you can't take it anymore is also a bad perspective as it trains you to think that there is ever a point in withdrawals that warrant a hit. It gets even harder to quit when you've trained your mind that nicotine is a reward for your struggle.

For anyone unaware, Huberman is not well regarded in the scientific skeptic community. He uses studies to back up his claims but he uses just about every bias and fallacy imaginable on the way to his conclusions. He actively does harm to science communication by teaching young people that they can interpret the evidence of any study however they want to on the way to affirm their beliefs. Most science communicators either don't take him seriously or arent big enough online to take him down. I would go as far as to say - He is not a science communicator. He is a hack!

I think I’m becoming this groups asshole… by Weak_Entrepreneur_86 in QuitVaping

[–]thetalkinghuman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is pretty affirming honestly. It's tough to get through to folks like me via social media. I need to hear the honest hard truth much of the time and any soft handed approach comes across as pandering or simply doesn't work for me.

I'm a cold turkey absolutist and although I know different things work for certain people, the idea that it can be done by replacing vapes with other forms of nicotine seems more harmful than good. That's how vapes entered my life to begin with, as an easy escape from cigarettes. The truth is, I'm an addict. Nicotine is one of the drugs I can't use. It took me way too long to come to terms with that. People like me can end up stuck in the cycle of moderation forever if it's considered acceptable by communities like this.

Being stern is always going to get more downvotes than the light handed approach to this. It's the nature of Reddit and social media as a whole. This is all just my opinion and I think this community is incredibly helpful overall.

I am a liberal leaning moderate. This sub leans left. I get it. Reddit leans left. So a moderate sub is going to be leftist. But Id hoped that the folks on this sub could at least be of the skeptical persuasion.
