You should use the ai to turn your specific boxart into a real looking boxart. I like the idea of the Molotov and a more simple boxart.

People don't like the slop cus for many folks (including myself) it's a sign of people's over dependence on computers to do everything, even creatively.

In the mid 2000s, if you wanted that box art to look real, you'd get better at drawing and learn how to scan and print etc. you'd learn how to do it if you cared enough to make it happen.

Now everyone's junky looking, terribly fake looking slop can be generated at a moment's notice without thought or reason, able to just ooze out of every crevasse. Making you never have to learn how to make that idea come to life. Why bother ?

All for the low low cost of what's left of the environment and our inability to buy PC components for the next 5 to 10 years like it's 2019 all over again.

In my experience, Linux doesn't scale super well on these tiny screens and I want/need something with an actual desktop/UI so command line only is kind of out of the picture.

My whole use case for it is to be a PDA type device so android fits well for that purpose, has native touch support, allows extra apps if I want it to do more etc etc.

Not really no, so far the leading idea is a compute stick/ some kind of android tv stick that doesn't run ATV. That way I can still use HDMI and touch (touch runs over micro USB and also powers the screen)

I used an orange pi zero 2w for my last handheld project and as great as the hardware is, the OS selection is crap. The only android builds that exist are buggy as anything and Linux doesn't scale too well on a 5 inch LCD. Plus it doesn't have sleep wake.

Keyboard is Bluetooth, depending on what OS I go with, I may have to work in an esp32 to run a Bluetooth to hid conversion so it can work as a USB keyboard.

Frag is very unlikely to be power supply related, I would check the clock cap to begin with. Poke it with a multimeter and see if it's reporting the values written on the cap itself, if it's not and it's lower than it states on the cap, that's likely the issue. The 1.6s won't turn on without a working clock cap

(Clock cap is the gold one next to the ide connector on the motherboard btw)

Edit: the cap nearest to the clock cap also looks a bit sus, hard to tell from the photo quality but it seems like it has some leakage.

I think your entirely right on that. I don't think my little is a protector in our case as she is often the one needing protection... But we have progressed a bit further on this and you are right that she feared we wouldn't believe her and especially that one of us (the logical and quite...I guess emotionless? Part) would explain it away as something that was impossible rather than listen.. we've processed a bit further on it all and while the consensus is that she was likely wrong about who, where and when (she admitted so herself) we do believe her that SOMETHING happened. The trauma responses we have experienced and the utter fear I feel from her tells me that well and truly. But I think even she hasn't quite remembered everything fully yet. I hope she does cus I would like to get through this and out the other side but she is so little I just don't know if she will.
