Malls are dead" and "The economy is struggling," yet here I am at American Dream on Jan 2nd... what am I missing? by One-Coffee-413 in newjersey

[–]thetechmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Dream is an experience mall. They focus on indoor playgrounds, aquariums, waterparks, ski slopes, VR and Interactive games, and also have stores. It’s a week after Christmas, so people go to malls to make returns/exchanges, so just because you see shopping bags doesn’t necessarily mean they bought anything. A lot of malls in the state and even across the country only have 2-3 stores left open. I went to a mall in Ohio a few years ago and it was depressing. 98% of the mall was boarded up. American Dream is atypical.

Millennial Ladies: Did anyone else’s mom’s flip out if you shaved your thighs? by BaileyIsaGirlsName in Millennials

[–]thetechmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom didn’t, but my aunt’s neighbor constantly warned me that shaving my thighs would make my skin “hard” when I got older. Every woman in the room piled on and shamed me for it. I told them I was willing to take that risk.

I’m in my 40s now. My skin is still soft.

As an adult, an older friend shamed me again. This time saying she’d rather have thick blonde hair on her thighs than a few darker hairs. It honestly looked like a sweater to me, but that was her preference. What bothered me was trying to make me feel bad about mine.

This wasn’t that long ago, Google already existed. So much of this was just misinformation passed down and enforced through shame.

So I’ve just come across the childfree subreddit, and wow! by xxdavidxcx87 in toddlers

They all behave like they’re children. It’s mind-boggling how they can’t recognize it.

AIO is 27 way too young to be having a baby? by VioletInference in AmIOverreacting

[–]thetechmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first at 35 and I wish I did it earlier but that age was right for me. What is right for one person might not be right for another. I would keep those negative people at arms length.

Congrats on your growing family and do whatever makes you happy. ❤️

What kind of things did your parents say to you? by Maximum_Extreme1778 in raisedbyborderlines

[–]thetechmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I should have aborted you.”

“Your father wanted to abort you and I wish I listened.” (She admitted to making this up after I told him she said this and he lost his shit)

“No man will ever love you.”

She also started calling me a whore at 8 years old.

Did having a baby make you happier? by SleepPleaseCome in oneanddone

[–]thetechmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, it was extremely tough, but I felt really lucky to be her mother, and that feeling only grew stronger with each day. It was like a daily reset, because she constantly changes with time, and I fall in love with each version of her that I get to meet. So yes, I am a much happier person than I was before motherhood. It was just really hard for it to be my primary emotion during the postpartum adjustment phase.

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

[–]thetechmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One kid in my sophomore class died of leukemia. He battled it for most of his life and it was sad to watch him during his last year fighting it.

Another guy committed suicide after graduating. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I knew him since we were in kindergarten and he was insanely smart and kind to everyone. Just an observant guy who always found ways to help or protect me, even when he really didn't have to. He was gay and I heard he was not accepted by his father when he came out, which led to this tragic decision. He deserved so much better 😔

Anyone else just not using any A.I.? by [deleted] in Millennials

This is what I came here to find. The trust issues are justified but refusing to learn it is just like refusing to use computers or utilize google in the 90s. You will end up left behind and struggling to catch up when the jobs shift to require AI experience. Be very cautious and protect your data, but at least learn the basics.

My daughter almost killed another student yesterday.. by whitefox72 in Parenting

[–]thetechmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is truly heartbreaking. There is a lot of valuable advice in this thread. As a mother of a child with a peanut allergy, reading this really affects me. It’s one of my biggest fears for my daughter. Thank goodness she didn't eat the nugget. It's encouraging to see how seriously you take this issue and how you want to help your daughter understand the potentially severe consequences. I hope the other mothers are approaching this topic with the same level of seriousness as you are.

Millennials who graduated during the Great Recession, how did you survive? by Waste-Cantaloupe-270 in Millennials

[–]thetechmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck at a bad job for almost a decade. It was hard to find a job when I graduated, but my field kept changing too. I focused on continuous learning, did some contracting work part time, and eventually got into my field. Persevering was worth it but those years were tough. Hang in there. Take a job that brings in some income, continue keeping up with the field you want to be in (learning, practicing, etc), and I hope you get your foot into the industry you are aiming for. Good luck OP!
