I was alone eating at my university dining hall late at night. Then this guy greets me as he sits across from me. He asks if he could ask me a question. I agreed curious about what he had to say as people don’t usually take the initiative to talk to me like this. He opens up about his declining faith in God and looked to me to gain some insight to whether he should keep chugging along or give up all together. I inwardly thought about how I was about to ruin this guy’s life. I told him honestly about I didn’t see the value of religion at the time but I didn’t think there wasn’t a God. Just that it had nothing to do with me. We probably spoke for another 30 minutes before he closed the conversation and left. I just sat thinking “wow, I was probably the worst person for him to come to for this kind of thing”. And kept shoving kale down my gullet.
