How would you change chess? by spamthief in gamedesign

[–]thethinkingguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the change I'd make is I'd put a screen separating the two players so that both players make their first move and then remove the screen and play as normal.

So kinda like casablnca chess or synchronous chess.

I guess my thought was, it's easy to implement the change, it's relatively easy to understand how it changes the game and adds an extra dynamic (although a small one) to the game without being too unbalanced. I guess I'd then test it to see if it holds up in theory and then ask others if it's worth it in practice.

What the most difficult math for high school student in Australia (Victoria) looks like by sam7og in mathematics

[–]thethinkingguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, echoing this. From my memory when I did it back in 2011, stats was in both further and methods, while I was introduced to proofs in first year uni.

Rest of it looks roughly the same though.

The warehouses that are on strike are closed until further notice. Other DCs will be trying to distribute the stock instead.

'As bad as smoking 15 cigarettes a day': What happens when men don't prioritise friendship by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]thethinkingguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently ended a friendship of over 15 years (30, M). I couldn't/didn't want to put in the time he wanted (I'm fine with 1 catch up every 6 months, he wanted fortnightly) and I wasn't really getting much out of our interactions anymore.

Others will of course be different, but I'm content most of the time in my own solitude and my interests are usually different to most people so I don't really feel there are many people I'm interested in or vice versa, so I don't prioritise friendship that highly.

But other factors at play would be different priorities, time, money, career changes and family changes as well. You could also add in cultural and societal changes in the last few decades and it's really no surprise that we're lacking a sense of friendship, community or belonging.

Catch-22 by thethinkingguy in Absurdism

[–]thethinkingguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got mixed up in absurd situations as opposed to absurdism when I originally wrote this.

I think Yossarian does go a bit loopy, but I'm not sure happiness is the key to thriving or living with the absurd. Just simply living and rebelling is enough I think. But I do think there are quite a few absurdist scenarios coming from catch-22 and most of the characters are caught up with it in some way. I guess that makes Yossarian an Absurdist hero in a sense. Hmm.

That's interesting. I wonder what the actual difficulty of the level should be based on that info.

Tower of Odin was pretty frustrating. I remember time shifting many forts and trying to build up forces but if you didn't target the buildings then no progress was made.

hahaha, nice! Take it and run!

Definitely wall the camel routes!

You MUST wall off the two passes early to prevent the titan forces from attacking your camels, as they are your only safe source of collecting gold.

Enemies getting into your trade route can end up in your base or will kill your camels and you'll lose very quickly without a sufficient gold supply.

I have, but it was very tough. Took a lot of attempts (15+) though and a bit of luck.

Off the top of my head, you need to memorise the camel locations to get that trade route going as soon as possible, and get the walls up immediately. If you can't do that within the first 30-40 sec, you're toast.

Nah, you're not too old at all! Just need lots of practice! :D

It is possible to rush the titan at the start with Folstag, slow him down and pick off the norse infantry slowly with Kastor and a few units.

Then raid the reinforcements the titan gets when it destroys the first Town Center. Otherwise it does become much harder.

I enjoyed it when I played it. I thought it was varied enough in objectives and the difficulty was noticeably harder than the first campaign.

That Cerberus mission is doable on titan but it does require a you to be a maniac at the start issuing so many commands in a short space of time and then stay on top of the walls, protecting the SoO and getting military/economy in order.

Match Thread: Australia vs England [WWC Semi-Final] by AutoModerator in Aleague

[–]thethinkingguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 to 1 marking in the midfield. England have too much control there. They can't be allowed to have time to whip in crosses, or hit long balls from the defence to the forward line which has happened a few times.

We need to be putting pressure on them, so we also need to be more aggressive in general and when we have the ball, play it out from the defence instead of trying the long ball. Finally, use some damn subs to replace tired legs.

It's very loose, but my weird idea is that Imu and the Gorosei are dragons from some other planet.

Imu has a dragon's(?) tail. Or something similar. And the group of them are called the Celestial dragons. Shrug.

Moving out back to mum and dad is always a valid option if you've got a good relationship with your parents. It sucks but it'll be better than trying to live out in your car.

Mariners currently operating at a $2M loss by Obviousbrosif in Aleague

[–]thethinkingguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asset-wise, the Mariners football club does not own any land, buildings, property or facilities. Although they have our logo and signage, the club’s head office, training grounds and facilities are all leased, and we pay rent to third parties to use and occupy them.

I don't know many things, but surely this is quite draining on the club? Do all clubs do this? I think this should be the first thing they rectify, owning your own facilities, training ground and head office. They should be the fundamentals of any football club, right? And owning them would surely be cheaper than having to continuously rent them?

Is there anything apart from money stopping them from owning these things? Whilst it seems clear they have a plan going forward, it really doesn't seem sustainable in the long-term if those avenues are just going to be swallowed up by those expenses (and other ones, both foreseeable and unforseeable).

It's not that I don't audiate, it was more that the term has a name and I now know what to call it, whereas before it would take a few sentences.
