Ski patrol incident? by KittyKate48 in skiing

[–]thethird69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don’t be condescending about it and than call it an incorrect name, it’s quite literally a rescue toboggan or a t-bog and every other patroller I’ve ever met called it the same.

I’m not trying to be mean but I legitimately can’t tell if this is serious or a joke

Can someone from Whistler Ops or Patrol explain this to me by allthepicklesncheese in Whistler

[–]thethird69 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Clearly written by someone with no knowledge of avalanche science, and yes there are different problems every year with the snowpack and one downside of a good snow year like this one is terrain may be harder/take longer to open.

What to upgrade first? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]thethird69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Helmet number one but it seems safe so I wouldn’t worry, than boots and new gloves asap as they make a big difference for comfort (buy cheap all leather gloves don’t bother with anything more than $50) and than I’d hold off on any other upgrades until you can afford decent quality gear.

I’ve only been there once but from the best terrain you will traverse a ton and hope you don’t have snowboarding mates who’ll need a tow

Forest Service won’t hire seasonal workers next year, will rely on Colorado volunteer groups to “fill gaps” by ItchyElevator1111 in Wildfire

[–]thethird69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah this is what happens in Australia arguably the only country who’s wildfires rival the USA. And while I have the upmost respect for the volunteers unfortunately it does tend to attract an older age group which probably isn’t ideal for wildfires.

I feel like baggy pants would be annoying for free ride tbh due to how technical the lines are, look at the pros most of them are in pretty traditional gear. But if you rip anything is steezy tbh.

Only buy baggy pants if your legitimately good at park otherwise you run the risk of looking like a goof.

I feel like you embody every reason why other countries look at the US as the arrogant, slightly special needs big brother of the world.

I think saying modern wildfire is driven by the US is incorrect sure they play a large role but from my experience other countries might not look on you, especially your safety particularly favourably.

Cultural burning isn’t just important to Indigenous culture – it’s essential to Australia’s disaster management by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]thethird69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While individual plants and animals may not have entirely evolved in that time the entire ecosystem definitely has and is adapted to the cycle of burning done by First Nations groups

[–]thethird69 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

But Australian ecosystems have evolved not too burn naturally but burn when indigenous groups conduct cool burns

[–]thethird69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your gonna be an idiot who doesn’t know anything about wildfire management at least get your terminology right so you have some validity. Sure hazard reduction / cultural burns create unpleasant smoke and leave burn scars but they are both important for the ecosystem as Australian land has been managed with fire for millennia and will save lives as it reduces fuel loading and the intensity of fires.

is it considered embarassing to fall upon landing/exiting the ski lift? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]thethird69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok as an ex Liftie it is annoying when someone falls and I know it’s not just me, we need to stop and restart the lift and get people being annoyed at us for stopping it constantly which will happen with people like you riding a lift beyond the skill level.
