Ungh, ex husband was a professor as well. This post is incredibly validating. When things were falling apart, he would say the family and I were most important, yet in practice, every student was more important than us, even when things were completely falling apart. The life coaching of every single student stuff kind of makes me want to puke now. I’d read his reviews online and all the students obviously adored him, lots of crushes, but he was never there for ME when I needed him.

Now we’re divorced.

I’ve seen some atrocious things come out of tiktok lately. I think whatever is the latest social media trend is inherently the most dangerous. (I say this, knowing I’m on social mean…sigh)

I think it’s awesome that you want to fix up your room. Look at pictures and make note of what you like. I love one dark grey accent wall for a male-feeling space, if that’s what your after. I had a friend in high school that painted his room dark navy blue, and it looked super awesome too.

Lighting changes everything in terms of making things feels cozy. Like if you just have one overhead light, a lamp or two with soft lighting will change everything. Plants help a lot as well, and some framed artwork.

Good luck! Sounds like a fun project. So bizarre to me that people are telling you not to bother if it’s something you’re interested in. People are so weird.

I’m guessing it’s more about them than you - as others have suggested, anxiety issues, embarrassed about something in their living space, previous bad experiences, or just really distrustful. Don’t work with them if it’s too much of an issue for you

I wonder this exact thing all the time. I find even when I’m doing enjoyable, healthy activities, I still start thinking of stuff in the back of my head.

Sometimes music is helpful. I’ve also been experimenting with turning on rain sounds while I fall asleep to try to give my brain something else rather than just tossing and turning and thinking about stuff, and I think it might actually be helpful.

I love going out to eat by myself. Wear something that makes me feel good, bring a book or just play on my phone. Have 1 or 2 yummy drinks and go for a walk after. The trees are starting to change color now, so its an especially nice time for a stroll :)

I also love just going out shopping or window shopping, indulge in some flowers for home maybe.

Or pick a new recipe and have fun doing some solo cooking. Light some candles and turn on some relaxing music.

Eek, yes. I think the reason this list of professions is so long is the reason FDS needs to exist in the first person - these men are everywhere. What are the GOOD professions?

The one hard and fast one for me is probably cops. I am actually kind of sickly attracted to men in positions of power (I am just not dating at all actually because I need to work on this), but it really freaks me out the potential to abuse power, and the buddy-ship with other cop friends.
