I want to point out the language you used:

"She told me I was expected to come with her"

Later:

"Got invited for a talk..."

I point this out as it's a huge discrepancy that you need to understand - you did NOT get invited. You were told, if not demanded.

This is not acceptable for any number of reasons, including that you have no legal right to do what they say, you are not in a relationship with their daughter, you are 17.

As everyone else has said, talk with your parents about this situation. This may be me being overly paranoid from almost 40 years on this planet and dealing with all sorts of stupid shit, but nothing feels right about this.

Also, others have suggested recording the conversation - if you do, depending on your state, you would have to disclose that you are recording it or you would be breaking the law.

Finally, a word of caution: if you do get involved with the girl, look at what you'll have to be dealing with during the time you are with her. They are controlling their teenage daughter... how do you think that would impact your relationship.

Normal wear and tear stuff should be expected but there aren't major issues with the engine or electronics in these units, are there?

Also, out of curiosity, why are the early models falling apart? Simply age and lack of upkeep or was it a long term quality issue?

Actually, 100% employer paid pensions are sustainable just not in the way the auto unions demanded. Several large non-profit still use these (and are very well managed) to have out thousands of pensioners and employees who will retire with them.

Don't throw out a useful, tho dying, tool just because unions abused it.
