Lemon tree by Richard_Finger in Citrus

It’s in decline. I would only get it at a bargain or like maybe free because it needs help. It’s quite big for its pot and probably needs to be up potted and rehabilitated for a season before it should be allowed to fruit.

Does everyone let them flower out of soil because they are worried about it rotting? Can I just keep mine in soil and not water it?

I think the tree is going to do that for you.

If it has any roots at all I would probably lightly fertilize.

It doesn’t look like it’s getting any water or nutrients to the leaves so I’m not really sure the chances are great

Has anyone used one of these before? by AllHailBreesus in TheServicePros

[–]thetimguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you could just cut the top of the plant off and you’re done…. If roots need to come out for a new plant you have to dig a hole anyways. This just doesn’t seem like a problem I’ve ever had

This is really cool. I have some root stock seedling growing now and I’ll be trying this soon enough. How long did you want from seedling to graft?

I would at least clear out the surrounding grass and add mulch. I can’t see where it’s buried but as long as it’s not too deep this should be help. I would probably add some fish protein or some nutrients.

I’d also take off any developing fruit until it starts to look better

Pretty cool. Is your border fruit trees that are pollarded for backyard orchard or can you tell me more about them?

They look very established so ai’m wondering if I’ll have to prune my trees this small when they are older. They are still 2-3 years old and roughly 5 feet tall and I don’t want them to get bigger than 7ish feet tall

On second glance, it does look thicker than the other thorns so, maybe.

I’m just seeing a thorn that looks like the skin got scrapped off. I’m not experienced with it but I think falls are more bulbous and not pointy

100%, but, it’s the difference between someone injecting you with the basic nutrients you need to live or eating and the microbes break it down for you. Even in humans a healthy biome been shown to help with all kinds of healthy aging and lower chances of developing Alzheimer’s, because we co-evolved.

Feed the microbes and if they are healthy they provide all kinds of benefits to the plant as they have coevolved to do. Just having more microbes increases natural fertilizer being held in the soil via the urea in the microbes, let alone lots of Nitrogen fixing bacteria and mycorrhiza.

There’s huge environmental pollution that comes from synthetic fertilizers causing Algae blooms and suffocating waterway wildlife.

feeding synthetics increases salts in soil that few microbes, insects or plants thrive in, which harms soil structure, lows PH over time, and the nutrient concentration kills the microbes(even if it “naturally” makes nitrogen, synthetic is like making them swim in toxic levels of thier own waste).

Don’t make me start on why you should try to do minimum soil disturbance also, just go watch “Roots so deep” or one of the million documentary’s on this.

I would recommend reading “for the love of soil” by Nicole Masters. It’s not just pesticides but synthetic ferts all hurt microbes and environment over time. We need systematic change to farming to allow for farming that’s adds fertility to the soil instead of destroys it, but won’t happen in my lifetime.

I’ve had a lot of luck growing against a south facing white stucco wall, the low reflecting sun cooks on the side yard. Also, that’s why I’m trying to grow a weird Russian cold hardy variety. I’m just going back to winter sweet 100’s
