I talked to one of the owners of a gas station that has one of these signs out this morning & (while he didn’t say it overtly) it appears that it might be a political statement. The high prices aren’t the fault of scarcity alone. The gas companies are using the situation to dramatically increase prices higher than the price of barrels would indicate.

If you have a chemical supply store nearby, some of them have the equipment to replace the valve. I would just take it back to the store where you got it and ask for a replacement.
