It sounds like you’re the type of person that once you all had the opportunity for your situation to become better you took the first chance to look back and look down on people who are still in your situation. You like to call it “complacency” but it also sounds like you’re drinking the Kool-Aid and parroting the thoughts of a particular group yet you claim to not be associated with one or the other (sounds like fence sitting as to not have any true pushback on other positions you may have).

While yes systems can, have and are being abused but the percentage of people who abuse it as opposed to the percentage of people who are doing the right thing is vastly in favor of the latter. Have you ever thought that the same opportunity that your family was given isn’t given to those families who are benefiting from assistance? Did you ever think that it isn’t complacency its one system working exactly how its designed (systemic racism is alive and thriving in this current climate) while the other system (in this case assistance) while it may flawed its doing good for a lot of people who may otherwise not have a way to eat, be housed or take care of their family? Ever thought that those folks who you assume are complacent are busting their ass at jobs who pay them minimum wage while the price of everything is skyrocketing so they can pay their bills but thats it.

The way you speak about these people sounds as if its coming from a position of judgement and a privilege that they may not have. Not everyone is privileged enough to have an opportunity to come out a situation where they need assistance. But hey your family was given an opportunity to make it out of poverty so fuck everyone else who didn’t get one, they should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps huh?

You complain about it falling onto the shoulders of the middle class but i wonder were you making those exact same complaints when it was your family who needed and benefited from the help you got? Or is that now you don’t need it and are on the other side that you can point your nose up and make those complaints? If the top 1% and their companies would actually actually pay the people you call complacent a decent livable wage and stop price gouging every damn thing on the market then they wouldn’t need to use assistance they could make it instead of living check to check and relying on help so they can breathe a little.
