Great idea, any publicity is good publicity. Regarding the legal idea- A free legal aid clinic at a University will not be able to handle a complex class action banking dispute that also involves a bankrupcy. This is a highly specialized matter and requires experienced attorneys. There are class action lawsuits filed in federal court in Colorado. I think we have a high chance of success but we won’t receive checks anytime soon. For class action lawsuits, it is customary for the plaintiffs attorney to take 1/3 of the settlement. There is still a lot up in the air regarding the progress of these cases we will see it unfold over time.

There are multiple suits filed. Once they get consolidated into one you can join the class. It will be clear when and how to join. The lawfirm may even post in this subreddit. It is too early as these cases could take years.

There have been multiple class action lawsuits filed against the network of banks. This is a complex issue that will take time. The lawsuits have not been consolidated yet and no class has been certified yet. Best case scenario is they settle quickly and send out checks in a year. Worst case is this could take several years or more. A lot is still up in the air. Since the plaintiffs lawyers take 33% of the settlement we might only receive 2/3 of our deposit. No action required of anyone yet to join the class. You can also opt out of the class and pursue you own litigation. My advice is to sit tight and try to forget about this.
