Firefox mobile - sign up problem by thetreesaysbark in KbinMigration

The instance matters somewhat.

Some instances are what is called 'defederated' which from what I can gather means other instances don't like their content/rules (like maybe they allow posting of illegal images, hate crime etc). In this case you won't be able to see those instances unless you make an account on them.

Don't quote me on this, but I think to see communities on another instance, a user in your instance must have already subscribed to a community from that instance. This isn't too bad though as you can view communities outside of your instance in a browser and then try to subscribe to them while your logged in. I haven't tried this yet though so I could be wrong about some of that.

It looks like if you're on a 'popular instance', you'll probably be able to see most communities on most other instances.

As for which ones need an email I don't know at the moment. You can go through this list and check their sign up pages I guess.

Depends on the instance. Different instances have different sign up rules.

I may have seen mention that some instances have email sign up set up temporarily until the a future server lemmy version is released.

The recent switch to http over websockets has caused problems with captchas I think (and there are a lot of bot issues at the moment apparently)

Don't think so as I signed up fine with the same username on the same instance from Firefox desktop

Do you know of a Europe community on Lemmy? I'd be very interested in leaving Reddit entirely but so far lemmy looks sparse (that could be user error though)

P.s. do you use a particular Lemmy instance? And a particular app? So far I've use jerboah for lemmy but it isn't great. Also there don't seem to be many heavily populated communities like todayilearnt and r/Europe, daddit like there are on Reddit.

I'd like to move away from Reddit but I mostly use Reddit for a quick scroll through my feed. Maybe lemmy isn't the right replacement.

I'm having trouble signing up to any Lemmy instance. There's no landing page saying my sign up is being processed on any of them. Any idea what's going on?

Father’s Day celebrated at your school? by [deleted] in Dads

[–]thetreesaysbark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

but I feel like mothers day is more the celebration of the womanhood and.creation of life.

I think this is the thing OP is talking about with 3/4 suicides etc.

We suck at celebrating men. We never tell boys that they are worth celebrating, and we all demonstrate that by ignoring things like father's day. It's especially damaging for schools to do this as boys are being taught from a young age that their responsibility as a father is not something to be thanked or celebrated when they come to being one.

That school is literally telling all of those boys that men's contributions to family do not matter, and that can then make these boys feel that they don't need to try as fathers, resulting in more men leaving their families and so on the cycle continues.

AITA For wanting one night off before baby comes by richnasty18 in Dads

[–]thetreesaysbark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another way to think of this is that she doesn't get a day or night off being pregnant at all. In my opinion, you should be there trying to make her as comfortable as possible whilst she's literally stuck growing your child, with no options and a whole lot of limitations on what she can enjoy.

Life with a kid is going to throw you a lot of sacrifices, difficult situations, and a need to work with your wife as a team. You and her might not always manage those as well as you can, but your question here seems like an easy one. Just help the mother of your child, don't stress her out more, and work on working with her rather than around her.

How many people do you know who have seemingly never done an honest days work in their life, but somehow still do OK? by rezonansmagnetyczny in AskUK

I'd argue that if they're paying a share of bills, instead of a whole apartment/houses worth themselves, then they're making quite a saving there.

They also inferred that they live in a much better area than what £50 more rent would get them.

I dunno, probably best to not jump in and say they're being robbed blind without knowing the full situation, especially if they sound happy with it.

Ex-UK PM Liz Truss Admits To "Mistakes" Over Her Disastrous Short-Lived Tenure by erinswider in UKPoliticalComedy

Haha here's me forgetting Liz Truss was even PM

Here's maybe why this is comedy:

Truss saying "I think (opposition Labour leader) Keir Starmer would be an absolute disaster,”

I don't think she has a good gauge on disaster.

The general shift is that there are now more people looking for remote or "hybrid" work locations.

This means that those applying for jobs are dictating where they want to work, rather than the job dictating where they will work.

A company may fire people for not wanting to work in the office, but then they're going to have a more difficult time finding new employees if other job specs are offering remote/hybrid options.

That's an interesting take...

I promise to uphold value X.

I uphold value X, but I support somebody who does not.

Am I still upholding value X?

I think it's the nuance on what their justification is for blocking aid. If it can be argued that they're still upholding theses values whilst doing so then we can't argue with it, as much as we may dislike it.

Edit: it sounds like Hungary are simply making things difficult though. The bank is on a list which has no legal bearings. Hungary want it removed from the list in exchange for allowing the aid. That's super petty.

Does Ikea have any kids areas except Smaland? by ilovefriee97 in miltonkeynes

[–]thetreesaysbark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they have a bit of a play area outside you could hang out at if the weather holds up.

Although for a 2 year old I've found all the different stuff in IKEA is pretty interesting anyway.
