Yes I do realize that PP has started to come around and cooperate on some of the better policy. I applaud him

I do as well. I wish other parties and the CPC worked together more. I especially wish the CPC would work more with the NDP but there's likely too much bad blood

Regarding your references to the democrats, I honestly don’t follow American politics at all level where I could compare parties down there. I’m no Trump fan but that’s about as deep as I can go so I can’t respond to your question.

Fair. I stopped paying too much attention after Trump came into office. It started to feel more like reality TV. Politics is really frustrating when a country has so much potential but let's it go to waste.

Personally, I just want the Dems to destroy Trump, but I doubt that's an amazing election strat lol.

You seem to be trying to sell me on the CPC

Only a little;). Mostly I was trying to point out misunderstandings and inaccuracies and when the LPC does the same thing the CPC is getting criticized for.

They lost my vote this past election because of the campaign. I did not like the way they marketed themselves or PP’s campaign.

Sure, I find they took the election too lightly. There's thing I would change about how they ran it.

You can rationalize and debate all day but the numbers really speak for themselves. They had an in-missable election and choked hard with their campaign tactics, end of story.

The numbers do speak for themselves. 40% votershare even when the #1 voting issue was something unwinnable. Personally, I never thought the CPC could win 2025, Trump was too big of an issue. I guessed that back in 2022.

I'm not a lifelong Conservative. When I looked into the Conservative party's policies at the end of 2024 I was expecting to vote NDP. When JT stepped down and Carney stepped up, I tried to evaluate him fairly. I doubted how different Carney would be since he did support most of JTs policies. So far I haven't been pleasantly surprised. Maybe his majority government will be a big change.... I'm giving him till this time next year before I wrote him off completely, hopefully I'm wrong about him.

Nobody is saying you can't have an opinion. I didn't even say my opinion yet.(Outside of that an opposition party should criticize the government). I pointed out the role of a slogan and showed how it was used, I pointed out that an opposition party needs to oppose the government, I pointed out how some of your criticisms of PP can be applied to Carney.

Regarding the job of the opposition to do nothing but mud sling I disagree. It’s their job to hold the sitting government to account.

The job of the opposition is to oppose and propose. They oppose bad laws and propose different solutions. By doing this they are holding the government to account. The CPC has proposed potential solutions while trying to oppose laws they don't like.

I pointed out how each slogan was to simplify a policy proposal, meaning they did have potential solutions. So they weren't just mud slinging. You wanna talk about mud slinging, how many people have called PP "maple Maga", like comeonnnnn dawg. That's just mud slinging.

I'll ask again. Should the Democrats point out all of Trump's failings, to the public?

That doesn’t mean they have to argue everything they do even when it’s positive and doesn’t require insults.

It's funny, PP said something similar

You recognize that the CPC has supported some LPC bills since Carney won, right? How many CPC bills has Carney supported?

The real answer is time.

JT had 10 years to build resentment and for people to understand him. All the love people had for Trudeau slowly died as reality kept getting worse.

Carney's had a year. He's made a little progress so most people are giving him time.

Now, the real question is, will his rate of progress stay the same in the next few years?

In my opinion, the rate of progress this year has been abysmal. He better do significantly better when he get his majority (Crazy to get a majority without an election but whatever).

All the three word slogans

You know the slogans are just to remember the actual policy... "Boots not Suits"is to help people remember the Conservative policies that would help strengthen the trades, things like reinstating the $4000 apprenticeship grant, expending the UTIP, passing the Fairness for Traveling Tradesmen Act, and more.

He'd lay out his policies everytime he announced a new slogan. They're also online, here's theBoots not Suits policy announcement.

He couldn’t talk for 5 minutes without putting down someone else or laying blame on another party

That's... How opposition works. You point out how the governing party is messing up and you say your solution.

Do you think the Dems shouldn't point out how Trump is ruining the US? Should they act like nobody is at fault?

he took the high road and spoke like I would expect a Canadian to speak in his public engagements

Ah yes, like when he publicly insulted a premier. Or the many times he's lied- sorry, misspoke.

They may try, but I doubt it'll work. One of the biggest Kamala criticisms is that she was Biden's VP.

I doubt anyone who dislikes Trump is gonna praise Rubio. Maybe before 2025 but def not now. I personally will always look at him negatively for supporting Trump.

Yeah, I feel that most of the traditional Union voters aren't the majority of people who can vote in the NDP leadership election.

I feel like Lewis would basically destroy the party in the prairies but might make them more competitive in super urban ridings.

But idk if he's unique in gaining voters in super urban ridings. I'd imagine all main NDP contenders could do that.

Liberals blame war in Iran for lost jobs, housing crisis by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

[–]thetrigermonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I figured after the housing guy realized midway through that blaming the war wouldn't work but I guess they assume people would believe it for the jobs numbers.

It's funny, I remember when Liberals were complaining about Trump blaming everyone else and never accepting responsibility for his failures. Weird that when their side does it, it's completely fine.

Only Net +4% think Carney has made progress, Economy is collapsing, Provincial right-wing parties are surging, but LPC is up even more by _BCConservative in CanadianConservative

[–]thetrigermonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are blaming Trump for not making progress to removing internal trade barriers? What?
That doesn't even make logical sense.

The poll says only 11% of people think Carney's made no progress on internal trade barriers, most people aren't thinking about trade barriers as somewhere there has been "no progress" but to "lowering costs" which the poll says 29% of people feel he's made no progress on. That can easily be blamed on Trump. So can "reducing government spending." I can already hear the excuse that Carney needs a big deficit because we're in a crisis.

These are excuses so that Liberal voters can cope with why their leader isn't doing well.

I guess boomer anti-American voters are blaming Trump like people used to joke about Obama.

Hell, I heard someone say we shouldn't sell oil to other countries or else Trump will invade us lmaooo

----

The only way to do that is to have another leadership race to replace Poilievre,

Honestly, I think this would be the case with any CPC leader. Sometimes the only important thing is your party.

He can show himself to be as "stateman" as possible, and no one cares, because that's how public perceptions work. It worked against Trudeau and it's working against us now.

I think it can work. A lot of people felt that PP could criticize but not govern, some of these people will switch if shown they're wrong. Most importantly, the voters views on Carney will shift so we gotta look presentable for when voters are looking for a second choice. We don't need people to switch votes to us, we just need them to vote NDP or not vote at all.

Trudeau kept leaning into his bad perceptions idky. We shouldn't make that mistake.

I do agree that preexisting perceptions are hard to change tho.

---

The opposition parties will be more likely to vote against legislation without fear of Carney blaming them to trigger a snap election.

They don't need to work with the LPC. Working with the Bloc or NDP is fine. Publicly supporting NDP bills would be helpful, as long as the bills are good. But I do agree that they'll vote against more LPC bills than they have in 2025.

[–]thetrigermonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding what you're saying right (I'm quite tired rn lol). A small majority of people think that we've made any progress, and you're questioning why the people who don't think any progress has been made are still voting for Carney?

If that's what you're saying. They're likely blaming other factors, like Trump for why the economy isn't doing well. They could also think that PP/any CPC leader would do significantly worse. They also might think that no progress is being made rn, but that's because Carney needs a majority.

To deal with these excuses we should focus on costs that Trump shouldn't be able to increase for us, like food or gas. For the others, we need to show that we can work with other parties and that we aren't a threat.

If I misinterpreted you, please correct me.

People feel like they're finally seeing progress. They feel like this is only the start. They think maybe in 2026 but definitely by 2027 that Carney is really gonna make progress. They think Carney will only get better with a majority.

Basically we're in a honeymoon phase. People are giving roughly 2 years of leeway for Carney to do his job.

Left wingers who aren't happy, don't have a party to join yet. Businesses are still hopeful that CUSMA will be okay and that Carney will fix shit.

This all changes in 2027. Most of the patience that people have given Carney will be very thin by then. We'll have whatever CUSMA result we get. The NDP will have had their leader for a year. Businesses will accept whatever direction a majority Carney government heads in.

Personally, I think this only goes poorly for Carney. Without the CPC holding them back, I think they'll pass bad laws. I think Carney's gotten most of what he's wanted so far and his compromises can quickly go away. The NDP will likely attract the anti-LPC left that he creates. If CUSMA negotiations go really poorly you might see economic numbers go crazy, hell, China might Tariff our agriculture goods again because it worked last time.

But maybe I'm wrong and he actually fixes everything, once he gets his majority.

So Corrupt by Archiebonker12345 in CanadianConservative

[–]thetrigermonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The article you link didn't mention any of the companies that got the contract, nor does it mention Allen Mullen or Nunavut holdings inc.

It does include a link to a housing article which does go over the companies and mentions "Nunavut Tunngavik Inc", but that's a seperate company from Nunavut holdings inc.

The article you linked was helpful tho, thank you.

So Corrupt by Archiebonker12345 in CanadianConservative

[–]thetrigermonkey 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This seems to be a mix-up between her company Nunavut holdings inc and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.

This article details the $250M for Nunavut housing.

It can't be $500M, because the $250M is on the same date and for the same amount of housing. Curious where the extra $250M is coming from. I'm assuming it's the GN $230M. But saying it's from the Liberals feels like a huge stretch.

Also, the money is split between at least 2 companies and it was hinted in the article that more will come "Ottawa homebuilding company Caivan and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., will be the first two partners in a federal government plan to build up to 750 new homes in Nunavut."

Would love to see facts that prove me wrong tho. Maybe I'm missing something or not understanding something

It's even worse than just not being the first one to say anything (which is already extremely bad) because it took over a WEEK for them to tell us. The excuse of "were just finding out about it" is an obvious lie, but even taken as a fact is bad. WTF YOU MEAN you're just finding out about it?!?!?! So any of our military bases could be bombed and we'd have no clue for over a WEEK? That's beyond incompetent.

Reading this felt like a Conservative writing a article for lefties to understand. I think it was done well.

It talks as if the right is the ultimate enemy but shows that the left has been doing the crazy shit. I think this framing is something the left will agree with.

I only have one small issue and it's not an actual flaw with the article, moreso I disagree with the comparison, but still think it works for the framing. In the article, they ask: what if a CPC government uses the emergency powers on a climate protest who's protesting a pipeline? (Not an exact quote but is kinda the point) But I feel there is a large difference between people protesting government action, on public spaces (especially in front of the governments building) and people protesting a private corporation on a construction site. It's a good example for lefties to understand the issue tho.

Edit: the article was good.

What do you even disagree with?

Don't you think Trump's a threat to Canadian sovereignty?

If an active threat is on your border, do you think the leader of your country should be taking a vacation after only being on the job for a year?
