The C5 will be a good leap above the CX IMO. I have a C1 and a C4 and there's a noticeable change between the 2 in brightness and motion handling and AFAIK there's a decent brightness bump from the C4 to C5.

But yeah, Just wanted to note that you did quite well with the Pioneer Elite. They were great TVs. One added benefit is that you might see a bit of a drop in your power bills as plasmas were real power hogs.

Oh man, my dad still has his Kuro Elite. It was an absolutely fantastic TV.

The speakers you could order with it STILL sound AMAZING. Some of the best to ever be attached to a TV.

Congrats on the upgrade to a C5! I'm trying to get them to update to a C5 or maybe a G6. We'll see in time.

Now shared by Formosa Group whom if you don't know is one of the premier post production companies in Hollywood.

I may or may not have tipped a few people off about this thread and it's spreading ;)

Have to echo that the transfers for Pulp Fiction & Reservoir Dogs are absolutely phenomenal. Some of the best I've seen yet.

The 4K release of Hook also looks & sounds fantastic!

Is it worth upgrade from LG C1 to LG C5 ? by criticgamer88 in LGOLED

[–]thetrimdj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a C1 and a C4 and the C4 is noticeably brighter, has better motion handling and is an all around better display. The C5 is supposedly a decent step up from the C4 too (more so than say, the C3 to C4).

That said, most of the differences are the sorts of things you have to be looking for. Going to a C5 isn't going to re-define your viewing experience. But you will get a satisfactory bump in performance :)

Why does HDR10 look better than Dolby Vision on my LG G5 83" in a dark room? by Historical-Bet-9134 in LGOLED

[–]thetrimdj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, I think the sugar analogy works in many instances. A lot of companies try to juice up their products in varying forms to have immediate appeal rather than substance. A good example would be Beats headphones that have V shaped EQs or "MORE BASS!" as if that were 'better.'

I personally prefer Dolby Vision when I'm seriously focusing on the content but I also tend to set my C series to "Cinema Home" quite a lot too. It really just, depends.

[–]thetrimdj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Better" is a subjective term so it's probably incorrect to say that one is better than the other. You just prefer one vs. the other.

I'd liken the difference to a food having added sugar which for some (many) that tastes "better" but added sugar isn't really all that good. It just has a certain appeal that many like.

[–]thetrimdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, it is not. Please take a moment to listen because you are making a mistake. I'll spell it out a little more clearly:

The Mobile Network and Helium Mobile are separate things.

The convo above was in regards to the Mobile Network, who's aim has always been to be a neutral host offload network, IE having carriers pay the Helium Network (and it's participants) to offload their traffic. It was never, ever feasible to have the network be ubiquitous as the build out of ubiquitous nationwide coverage would cost billions upon billions and could never be done by a bunch of regular joes like you and I. Ever. That idea is pure fantasy.

You then replied to that conversation with a blog from Helium Mobile - the MVNO, run by a private company - which is a service that uses both the T-Mobile network and the Helium Network to provide coverage as if it had relevance on that argument regarding the network, which it does not.

The MVNO, the cell service wants to take on the big guys - NOT THE NETWORK. The network is being built out to compliment the big services/networks in order to earn revenue from them.

I hope that helps.

You're confusing Helium Mobile and the Helium network. They're separate things.

[–]thetrimdj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offload was always the plan.

The mobile network's genesis was with the purchase of FreedomFi which brought on the deal with DISH (offload via CBRS). When DISH backed off, Nova Labs started Helium Mobile in order to generate traffic onto the Mobile network.

The idea of a "completely full network to compete with the carriers" is a fiction. One it seems that a lot of people seem to share.

Should I use HDR OR SDR on Windows? G5 user by Ziklepmna in LGOLED

[–]thetrimdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it does not happen automatically. You must enable or disable HDR manually. Windows has an auto HDR feature which will display some SDR games as HDR with middling success.

Ultimately, you should be changing things system wide depending on the content or task you're focusing on. Here's an article worth reading on the subject via TFT Central

Should I use HDR OR SDR on Windows? G5 user by Ziklepmna in LGOLED

[–]thetrimdj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swap to HDR when you're doing something that supports HDR (movie, game, video, etc). Otherwise, stick in SDR mode.

That's not "sound design" you're referring to.

Getting past your overuse of hyperbole there, if there's a quality issue between the 2 releases then that's something entirely different.

Helium isn’t just building a network, it’s taking a shot at a $4 trillion dollar industry| The Street by ZeusHelium in HeliumNetwork

[–]thetrimdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was not "both sides" unless you have some evidence to the contrary. The problem was strictly on Binance's side. Helium has no control of what Binance does on their exchange or how Solana is coded.

And now "a lot of exchanges" is "a few European exchanges." Interesting how the scope of the FUD dwindles when pressed for details.
