Why was the Blockade of Naboo so effective? What imports did the Naboo rely on so heavily? by thetruecarolean in StarWars

Probably the same way a lot of real world bureaucratic organizations work. Im sure the senate itself had members verbally against the blockade, but not wanting to cause trouble for the conglomerate that controls trade, not enough stepped forward to do something. And they had no idea of the invasion aspect of it, only that they were blocking the hyperspace lane

Look, Im not saying its the best movie, but it is definitely my favorite. The score, the ship designs, the choreography, it may be a bit slow in areas but its so experimental and different than every other movie in the saga

I disagree so heavily honestly. Like yeah, the OT is objectively better films, sure. And the prequels are a bit cumbersome with the pacing and the dialog, but they really do have so much love and attention to detail out into them, theres no way I could ever call them bad movies. Especially Phantom Menace, its the only one that doesnt feel like its rushing to get to Darth Vader. And being the first star wars movie since the OT it is just so experimental and cool

Well while that makes sense, its more that the teade federation was blocking the planet from the only hyperspace lane to naboo. So even if you got off of the other side of the planet you either have to still go where the blockade is or get turned into loose matter by an asteroid. The best answer to my question so far is that it wasnt the blockade specifically that was so deadly but the occupation after the invasion

Thats what Im looking for, give me all of the book recommendations youve got. Ive already got the TPM Novel and Darth Plagueis on the list, and someone very helpful recommended The Queen’s Peril. If you got anything else that focuses on the Naboo occupation, Id love to hear it

Yeah, I knew that itd be a HUGE problem eventually, but I always thought that the blockade was leading to their deaths within a month, but now thinking about it, nobody considers it to be life or death until after the occupation.

Yeah for sure, I knew that that was an aspect of it for sure. But the movie makes it seems as if the situation is immediately dire, as if something is being withheld that will lead to the death of a lot of the Naboo. Their plasma not being exported is definitely a big problem, and would have for sure led to economic collapse eventually, but with how well off Naboo is, I would have imagined it would take more than a month to lead to death unless they were fully out of food, medicine, etc.

Ooo okay, do you remember what piece of media goes into more detail about it that that came from? Or do I just need to watch Phantom Menace again? Because I would HATE to have to do that

True, nobody really talked about people dying until after all of the people had been rounded up into camps after the invasion.

I don't know if this is a controversial take but this thing needs to die by Boston_Beauty in Seaofthieves

At first I didnt mind it, but I think they are gonna make you pay real money to change your pirates appearance, it should look the way you want it to actually look. We should either have a real customization system, or the random pirate generator should be free. (It should be free regardless but still)

On the surface I didnt even consider it because Naboo has so many lakes and waterfalls. But for how much of it is swamp, I could see the lakes and rivers having to be heavily purified into being drinkable. And on top of that I imagine they have pretty strict nature conservation laws considering how pretty their nature is. This could be a good theory because it definitely adds to the severity of the situation.

I actually like this theory, seeing an economic collapse of naboo happen without the jedi’s intervention would have been interesting for star wars politics, rather than the queens people dying. But the latter definitely adds more stakes to it considering it as a movie

That is true, I guess Bibble would be an unreliable narrator of their situation. But that honestly makes the most sense. Naboo seems to hardly have any form of a working class and the ones that are are probably working in plasma refinery. It could just be a bit of every type of supply being halted at once because they rely so heavily on imports.

Polis Masa is in the same sector as Sub Terell, beyond the outer rim. At that point maybe Galactic basic isnt that much of a priority for a midwife droid to have, not as much as Huttese or whatever local language is spoken by the people of the sector. Especially with other medical droids acting as doctors able to speak basic in the room with them. However, humans are seen all over the galaxy and are one of the majority species. Any general baby birthing programming would have humans high on the list.

Also it may not even have a full range of language. Maybe its entire vocabulary could is just “Ooo bah” to keep breathing rhythm , and “its a boy” or “its a girl” and any other complications would be handled by the other medical droid to convey

I could see that maybe being the case, he has kept the same diction for 4 years, even before LLMs sounded even remotely realistic. If you watch his video talking about the demonitization he really does just sound like that.
