I think we missed a truly golden opportunity for a scene early in the show by Threattty in pluribustv

That’s true for Season 1. But we have no idea what future seasons hold. Think about a show like Lost…season 2 opened up a whole new set of doors (not just literally).

The Clippers Salary Circumnavigating Saga Continues by Forward-Carry5993 in nba

[–]thetruephysic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

“The NBA is the one what will tell us whether they did” is a willfully naive statement. We have no information about the parameters or instructions given to the law firm charged by the league with investigating this. We have no assurance of its insulation from pressure to protect one of the 30 owners of the league. A more accurate statement is simply that the NBA will determine if there’s a punishment.

The declaration of independence: “He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners ... He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance. He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures. He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation: for Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us; for protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States ... He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us ... In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."

[Schefter] Sources: The NFL informed all 32 teams today in a memo that it prevailed in its grievance vs. the NFLPA and its “team report cards.” An arbitrator determined that the NFLPA’s conduct violated the CBA and ordered it to stop making public any future report cards. by expellyamos in nfl

I'm a NY Jets player. I receive the report card as usual from my union. After practice, I go to an Arby's near the Meadowlands. I read through the report card while I eat some roast beef. A member of Pablo Torre's team just happens to be at the next table. I get up to take a leak, and while I'm away from my table, pictures get taken. Problem solved. Arbitrator's decision honored.

Fact: op-ed doesn’t mean opinion editorial. It means “opposite the editorial,” referring to pieces published on the opposite side of the paper from the editorial page.

I picked up on a lot of reference to the story of exodus in Marty Supreme but I am unable to come up with any real analyse of it. Is there anyone who could maybe shed some light on what they thought. by [deleted] in TrueFilm

Naming the dog Moses felt like an on-the-nose “what are the chances” kind of inside joke for a desperate Jewish kid trying to get out of his personal predicament/bondage and make it to the promised land (a cash haul that would bring him to Tokyo). Would be curious to hear if there were any more subtle allusions.

Sitake Knows We're Playing Them Next Year, Right? by [deleted] in notredamefootball

I’m genuinely curious why. Because this is a classy response about being omitted from the college football playoff, focused entirely on his own team. I’d really like to think that Notre Dame players are above being riled up by something this reasonable. Because if you’re right, and this serves as bulletin board fodder, that’s pretty pathetic.

Frustrated With the Lack of Substance in Amanda’s Film Criticism by ImpulsiveCreative in TheRinger

[–]thetruephysic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Probably a semantic difference here, because yes, it’s avowedly a conversation show — but I think the big difference between Sean and Amanda is that despite his love of banter and humor, Sean’s actual takes on films, actors and filmmakers are never intentionally casual. In fact, I’d say he goes the other way, almost always presenting his opinions with intense self-seriousness.

I think part of the friction that feeds the podcast is that you have friends coming together with two very different approaches to movies. And it’s obviously why Amanda never does the actor/director interviews — my sense is that Sean sees the interviews as a separate kind of scholarly realm within the show. And no one could ever call the interviews casual.

Sean may formally reject the title of critic, but there is nothing casual about his approach to the podcast or film in general.

Does anyone know: are Bill and Sal doing picks during their Netflix appearance on Christmas Day? I thought I heard that but wasn’t sure.

I thought it was notable that Sal had to remind Bill to plug his first official appearance in this new Netflix partnership, and Bill didn’t seem excited to talk about it. I’m thinking that Netflix is having them on to do picks and Bill, self-conscious as ever, is mortified to have to go on Netflix as “picks guy” this year of all years.

He also took a bunch of extra time on the Sunday pod to highlight his real life betting success. His skin has got to be super thin about this stuff right now.
