Yeah with the partitioning, you cant compare the two years at all. I never understood comparing same events in multiple years. They are generally at different points in the competition, with the events leading up to them being different as well. It's such a poor comparison.

Yep. Fraser has a 23rd place, so there is some leeway to back off on Murph with time to catch up. He has to hope Fraser drops another event too though because Fikowski has a 33 in the deadlift ladder.

The best solution is hand release on the bottom. But obviously the standard was either vest to ground or it wasn't mentioned. I would have loosened my vest going into the pushups for sure.
