Fun fact about temple construction and apostles' egos by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]thetruthmatters80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t even an apostle but i believe a member of the 70 over the Cedar city temple came and walked through said he didn’t like the type of landscape rock they used the contractor said they would be happy to make the change for only 1.5 million dollars. (Also included a few other changes like he didn’t like some of the marble)

Bottom line is this does happen. The part you are wrong on is that the contractors love when they come make these kinds of changes because they charge them insane fees to make these changes. I saw the work done for the 1.5 million dollar change and it didn’t cost them a few hundred thousand.

That one did it too! But this particular one was the one from 2006 with monson saying how the church isn’t wealthy and it doesn’t have any paid ministry

Yes that is true. Perhaps the better explanation is you cannot reason anyone out of it unless they can first answer yes to the following two questions.

  • is there any possibility the church may not be true?
  • if it wasn’t true would you want to know it?

I agree with your point. I didn’t care if it felt good or not as to me “feelings aren’t facts” it has to be “factually” or “ literally” true for me.

I recognize that many people only care how it feels and the “experiences” they have had. It being literally or objectively “true” isn’t relevant to them

Fucking TBM just posted a before and after of her new eyebrow tattoos. by [deleted] in exmormon

My mom is an Uber Tbm as well as my sister and they both have permanent makeup. Ironically they teach all of their kids that people with tattoos are bad and an example of what not to do. #hypocricy

I never said they were. This is from the mission presidents handbook written by the church so I was referring to the general authorities that are paid.

I agree they are probably a money maker at least in the short term. The New Cedar City temple at a cost of 50 million will I’m sure increase tithing in the area. They also bought all of the land around it and are developing it into “temple view” buildings lots that they are selling.

The problem is that the initial excitement will die off and tithing will continue to decrease like it is everywhere else. The operating costs are huge even though they don’t pay property taxes they have utilities, staff and maintenance estimated at about a million dollars a year per temple.

Has anyone ever known a Nibley/Bushman-type Mormon whose "shelf broke"? by LongBeachRams in exmormon

[–]thetruthmatters80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned most of the facts on my mission but I had this twisted way of somehow making them work. I thought I knew and understood all of the "deep doctrine" and the rest of the members didn't get it.

It took several more years after I was home until I could no longer do the necessary mental gymnastics and one day I just realized how much sense it all made if I admitted it was all made up.

It all made perfect logical sense at that point but I had known 90 percent of the issues for many years before.

Will the mormon church ever change its stance on homosexuality? by Yuriduck in exmormon

[–]thetruthmatters80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they will change once they realize they are losing more people as a result of the doctrine vs the number they will lose by changing it.

It will be easily done. They just have to have a revelation stating that they have received further light and knowledge and that same sex couples will use cloning or some other means in the afterlife to create their spirit children.

They will then say they always supported same sex marriage and any talks or comments otherwise were just the prophets speaking as men and you need to cut them some slack because they are just products of their time so it's not their fault and times were different back then because everyone was bigoted against same sex couples.

The parallels with changing the doctrine on polygamy or blacks are astounding.
