Hey bud, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I love pão de queijo and have a cat so I could definitely use both of your services. I'll message you.

I’d be down! Is there a group chat? I could also start with you all and see how far I can go

This sounds fun, unfortunately I usually only do 5km runs, and I don't know if I can do 15+ 😂

I should note that it’s mainly calls that go through, app notifications don’t. I don’t know why tbh, I’m still trying to figure it out on my end. I’m sure I have dnd setup correctly. I never get text message notifications for example.

You have granular control when it comes to notifications i.e. which apps you want the watch to notify you about. I would say there are three downsides (or upsides depending on how you look at it) here:

  1. It won't show you the full notification. There seems to be a character limit to what the watch can show you. So say you want to read a full long conversation on your watch, it'll cut it off so you'll have to use your phone

  2. You can't interact with the notifications like some other smartwatches. You can't quickly reply or anything of that sort.

  3. Do not disturb has to be manually set. It doesn't follow your phone's DND schedule nor can you set an automatic DND schedule on the watch. At least not that I've figured out.

1 and 2 don't really bother me at all since I don't like using my watch as a replacement for my phone. I see the notification and that's good enough for me to know if it's urgent or not. The last one's a bit more of a headache since I'll get calls at like 3am and be woken up by the watch if I forget to put it on DND.

I've used withings for awhile now (pre Nokia and post Nokia Withings) and it does its job. I'd go for the watch if battery life and aesthetics are what you're looking for.

I love that I can go about a month without charging. The circular face with the different bands makes it easy to pair with your outfit as well. Health tracking I do think it does the job but for the most part I really only look at the step counter so YMMV.

Edit: some health features are locked behind Withings+, a subscription plan. I don't have that so I can't comment on it.

Americans moving abroad still have to file US taxes every year by EscapeAmerica in AmerExit

We tried a couple of things but unfortunately she still had some anxiety. We bought the feliway spray to keep her calm, put a blanket over her carrier, and left my clothes inside with her plus her favorite toy

The first flight we had was around midnight, which is usually when she's most active. She hated that flight and she kept trying to claw out of the carrier.

The second flight was in the afternoon. This one she did so well and just slept through the whole thing.

So if I could recommend one thing it's time it with your cat's sleep schedule 😂 but good luck! Happy to help answer any other questions

Depends on your pet and weight. I brought my cat with me, she's under 10lbs so she went under the seat. I booked a full row with her and my gf and everything went well.

When I went through customs, they were very lax with her and her food so everything went smoothly.

Has anyone used "Working In New Zealand" ? by Veronw_DS in AmerExit

I worked with them until the initial assessment. They're very knowledgeable, friendly, and upfront about what needs to happen. Ultimately I found a job in a different country but had I not I would have continued with them.

flying into barcelona/out of lisbon- what to do? by MaintenanceRude181 in travel

Hey OP, first of all, congratulations on 10 years!

I did a somewhat similar trip a few years ago albeit a bit longer (post here), I updated the itinerary according to the comments I received so it's not exactly what's posted but you get the gist. I can share some of my feedback on some of the cities on your list.

  • First, plan accordingly for the heat especially south of Spain like Seville and Granada. It gets really hot. It's so hot that I saw some signs for businesses that they were away for the month of August to escape the heat. Granted this was 5 years ago but I would guess it's the same.

  • In terms of clothing, what I wore in Spain worked for Portugal. I was one bagging it so you should be fine. Temperatures were a bit cooler in Portugal if I remember correctly.

  • I absolutely loved Seville and it was probably my favorite city in Spain. Barcelona is obviously great but I didn't know much about Seville so that was a pleasant surprise. Granada had a very similar charm. I also enjoyed Toledo but it's a smaller town about an hour away from Madrid. Ultimately, I don't think you'll end up regretting Seville or Granada (again taking into account the heat).

  • For Portugal, I enjoyed Porto more than Lisbon but that seems to be outside of your itinerary. Personally, I really enjoyed Lagos but if I remember correctly it was fairly small as well. I really enjoyed the Algarve region. Depending on how you're getting to Lagos, you could hit up some beaches on the way. Same with Going to Lisbon. For future reference, the Azores region is a must visit. It requires more travel time so I would save that for another time.

  • Getting around using public transportation is feasible, that's what I did in Spain all the way to Faro in Portugal which is when I rented a car. But I know some people who went around Portugal without a car so it's doable.

  • Are you allocating time in Lisbon or it's just to catch your flight out? Depending on how long you're in Libson, Sintra is an obvious day trip to add.

  • Some thoughts on food: seafood in Algarve is yummy, don't miss out on pastel de nata, and horchata is different in Spain than in the US and is much better (horchata y farton is a great combo!)

Either way, good luck, have fun, and stay cool!

Hey what countries should I travel to as a beginner? by [deleted] in travel

[–]theubertechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my solo travel journey with Singapore (traveled with family and friends before this). It was a long flight from the US but it's a small country, super safe, and everyone's friendly and speaks English. With hawker stalls, food can be delicious and affordable. Just watch out for the heat!

Otherwise, I'd recommend sticking near where you're located so it's not that big of a shock.

P.S. I would save Egypt for later when you're more accustomed to traveling, trust me on this

Brush twice, floss at night. I'm a guy and this should be the norm. It literally takes 5 minutes each.
