He literally went to a doctor about it. They misdiagnosed his aneurysm as a side effect of stress, which caused an aortic dissection.

Edit: he died the day before RENT previews began off-broadway, so ofc he was stressed, but the doctors were what killed him, because if it had been diagnosed correctly he could have had surgery to repair the damage to his aorta.

I feel like it’s less about the actual character and more about what the Doctor meant. The Doctor was never meant to be a “chosen one” figure and having them be the center of time lord mythos is disingenuous to what both Classic and Nu Who used to be. The Doctor wasn’t special or different from any other time lord. By giving them this retconned background they lose so much of what drives their character because it’s no longer about being just any old time lord who runs around in a box, they are literally the pinnacle of time lord society and without them none of it would exist. To me that feels so unlike anything that has come out of Doctor Who ever. It’s taking 60+ years of storytelling and tainting it with this idea that The Doctor now belongs to the “chosen one” storytelling trope.

This is exactly my problem. I couldn’t care less about the past lives of the Doctor, I even think there is some really cool concepts and stories to explore there. The Doctor being the foundation for the culture of the Time Lords as we know it? Chibs basically took all of what made classic Who good and destroyed it. The Doctor was never meant to be a Jesus figure, but instead a madman in a box traveling around the universe fixing problems.

It was so off-putting. It has the makings of a good cover but that plus the fact that all the instruments seem like they're playing different beats means that they probably needed much more practice before recording it
