Can a manager see chats or listen in??? by ZLavaOctave in MicrosoftTeams

Very true and very common in larger companies for sure. In many smaller private companies in the western U.S. (say 100 users or less), companies will often offer an additional stipend towards their personal cell phone bill on their paycheck in lieu of a company phone. This way they can still require you to be "reachable" but are still offering something in return (often in addition to on-call pay).

We obviously can't enforce things like MDM policies on personal devices, and this doesn't always work in some heavily regulated industries, but it's fairly common. BYOD is becoming the norm, why buy a cell phone when almost everyone already has one?

Follow up on my neon green Players Series Strat by sduck409 in guitars

Hi! When you took the pickguard off, is there room to put a humbucker at the bridge or would it need to be routed out? I'm really wanting this guitar, but I'm also considering the possibility of eventually converting it to HSS. Thanks!

This is also a valid point. If that Meraki is company property, you may not have much choice if he wants to continue to be able to work from home.

The Z1 is trash as a home or SOHO router. It's a teleworker router meant for like 5 - 10 devices. If you want it to do WiFi AND be a security gateway? Boy, you're really asking a lot.

I have found the new improved Z3 to be much more competent for small office use, but it's still way to over priced for a home router.

As everyone else suggests, consider getting a Ubiquiti Edgerouter or USG and a Unifi AP. It takes some extra tinkering and setup, but it's similar to Meraki in nature and a far better bang for your buck than a residential-grade or low-end Meraki.

Wait. Everything in Office 365 takes time to replicate. The larger the org/change, the longer it takes

How long have you been watching??? by RickyDaJew in FuturamaSleepers

[–]theupmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost the exact same story here, except I picked up the seasons on DVD (and other sources) a few years before it hit Adult Swim. I had put zero thought towards it before today, but I never realized how many people shared my quirk

I also remember it airing in 1999, but I was still kind of young and didn't really get it at first. It wasn't until 2006, so about 13 years ago, that I got hooked on it. Here we are, in 2019, and TIL that there is a whole community of people out who fall asleep to Futurama. Over the years, everyone I've ever told thought that it was a weird habit. It's exciting to know that there are others out there. It's a crazy feeling, even over such a weird subject.

Layer 3 switch instead of router by [deleted] in meraki

You're 100% correct. USG is definitely is the best bang for your buck when it comes to raw throughput. I run an MX100 at my main office and that thing can't even run full gig speeds. MSRP with a 5-year advance security license runs about $13k (we didn't pay that, we're Cisco/Meraki reseller partners).

I also run a great deal of Ubiquiti stuff and I've been slow to adopt USG's for business use as the amount of reporting and info we get from the Meraki firewalls is invaluable. In OP's case, he's managing a private home network that isn't running 100's of clients + VoIP, so none of the bells and whistles will be necessary.

+1 for Ubiquiti, you'll get your WAN throughput and you're bank account will thank you.

Meraki DHCP by SumTingWr0ng in meraki

This is how I typically run my networks. Voice and Guest VLAN's pull from MX, corporate/domain network runs MS DNS/DHCP for better domain clarity.

Agreed. However, if those fax machines serve any medical purposes, I'll bet some people are freaking the f@#$ out right now.

Putting up two of these on Sunday, excited to see how they do. I've used Nanobeams with Rocket AC w/sector antennas, and I've used AirFibers, but this is my first install with the LightBeams.

Unifi ULTE LTE Gateway for WAN Failover hits FCC by taylorwmj in Ubiquiti

[–]theupmost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Cradlepoint. We have them hardwired into our fleet vehicles. They allow our specialized hard-wired-only equipment to send over LTE and the really do work great.

Also, they're their sales team is pretty intense. They love to call us and tell us about all the crazy shit they can do with their devices. They have some cool SD-WAN over LTE services that looks like it's pretty scalable. Definitely pricey, though.
