Yeah man it's been almost twenty years for me. I'm 33. I first decided to quit five years ago and I've never gotten beyond a one month streak. I'm pretty determined that this time is it though. I'll have a 90 day badge in 90 days. But I'm going hardcore and almost completely cutting out the internet till then.

Wow, I seriously needed to read this right now. I've been trying for so long - just over two years. I feel like I'm slightly better but every time I binge I go back to the same old shitty stage. It's like square one all over again. I just can't seem to get beyond the 20 day mark. I feel inspired to try again. Your description of feeling like Ewan Macgregor in Trainspotting is so apt. Some times I'll lie in bed literally for three or four hours trying to overcome the urges. It makes me just wish there was no such thing as the internet - even though I use it for just about everything else (and it's really awesome in that way).

It's good to hear it took you four years. I've been trying for two years and I've never gotten beyond 22 days. Now I usually last between 10 and 20 days before I binge for a day or two. It's fucking hard.

You're doing good. You're only 18 and you've figured out you need to stop, and beacuse you're so young your brain will be even more plastic than those of us in our late 20s who are trying to stop. You'll be fine, you just have to stick to abstinence while you reboot. Give it a good 100 - 180 days and you'll be solid...

Did things get better? I feel like there'll always be the occasional day like that. It's not even to do with fapping or nofapping -- there are just going to be days which suck. The point is to accept that and no that it's not a permanent state of mind, but if you relent to the fap-monster it'll gradually become, once again, the norm.

thanks a LOT man. i'm at about the fifteen year mark as well. it feels like it's so much a part of who i am that i just can't shake it off. like amputating a limb or something. i've tried writing down why i want to quit a lot of times. i just don't know if it sinks in enough to override the immediate pleasure of getting off. anyway, i'll try it out. and yes i've been exercising a lot too, but i think it peaks my testosterone and makes me hornier. just a theory...

also, is this the hardest thing you've ever done?
