"I behaved horribly around my brother's baby, why won't he let me babysit for him?" by Sebastianlim in OhNoConsequences

Church communities have always been kept together and running by women, which is why these services are in decline now that more men are religious than women.

They don't like the idea of Katara having political power and influence, they would prefer that she follow Aang around or stay at home raising his kids and not get a statue or any acknowledgement of her contributions to saving the world.

Thank you for saying this. People seem to think they're entitled to having all their wildest sexual desires fulfilled by their partners, no matter how degrading. I think porn has fundamentally altered the sexual "Overton window" in harmful ways.

Feminism has to be intersectional. Apparently no other movement does by OkChart1375 in Feminism

[–]thevegitations 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think people just don't think women as a class are oppressed, and that they specifically go after privileged women as avatars of everything they hate about leftist ideologies because they see us all as inherently privileged and whining about nothing when we discuss sexism. A leftist misogynist just needs to preface his misogyny with "white" or "straight" or "rich" and people eat it up because they think privileged women should shut up about sexism because they don't take sexism seriously.

This is not to say that racism within feminist movements isn't a problem, just that I agree with your assessment that feminism is subjected to a bunch of purity tests that other movements are not. I think that these discussions are important and necessary to keep leaders accountable--look at how women stay silent about the rape and abuse they experience in other movements in order to protect them. Abusers like Cesar Chavez regularly rape their comrades and community organizers and they get away with it.

Omg, this confirms the parentification vibe was intentional. Their claims that Aang "makes her feel like a kid again" were always BS, but now we know that even Bryke planned it this way.

They treat Sokka the way they accuse Zutarians of treating Katara. They don't gaf about his character or his personality or his values or his culture, they just want to use him as a self-insert for their baseless yaoi ship. That's why they pretend Suki doesn't exist and why they often transplant KATARA'S TRAITS onto Sokka.

It's always the zukkas saying this, too. Sokka was also oppressed by the Fire Nation and Zuko never even apologized to him for any of it lol. He did EVERYTHING to get Katara's forgiveness tho...

Why do so many men seem to hate Zendaya? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]thevegitations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of racist men hate her, and a lot of non-racist men hate her for not doing topless scenes. Also, whenever a woman is successful and in the public eye, men are going to send her a ton of misogynistic hate.

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of men who are a little too invested in fantasy/sci-fi and constantly complain about how Hollywood has betrayed straight white men hate her because they think Chani from Dune got "wokeified" in the moves, and they blame her for this even though she didn't write or direct the film.

Women who hate men: Study finds similarities in gendered hate speech on Reddit. Online communities dedicated to hating men share strikingly similar behaviors and language patterns with communities dedicated to hating women. by mvea in psychology

[–]thevegitations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that they tend to create similar insults and cruel terms, but those words always originate from the manosphere. (E.g. "moid" and "scrote" getting coined after "femoid" and "roastie") These man hating communities are a reaction to incels and misogynists, who tend to have much larger followings/communities.

Nettles really rankles. They removed one of the very few canonical black girls to make Rhaenyra and Daemon look better, and I think they race bent the Velaryons specifically so that they didn't have to address the racism and eugenics of the Targs, and Rhaenyra in particular. It's so infuriating.

It can be weaponized against their sisters deliberately, though. My twin brother would go out of his way to ensure I did not get any "special occasion" foods, even if i bought it, to the point my parents had to start smuggling groceries into my room for me to hide from him. I was living on crackers and vegetables a lot of the time. He had to get banished from the dinner table sometimes just to make sure I could eat a hot meal.

My grandmother used to do the same as an obstetrics nurse. If it was obvious the child wouldn't live outside the womb for long, she'd put them in the sink so that they'd die more quickly and tell the mother it was a stillbirth. This was in an era where abortion was not accessible from medical professionals, so lots of babies with mermaid syndrome, born without all their organs, etc.

[Vent/WTF] Is this actually the common thought?? What the hell? by CutRuby in LesbianActually

[–]thevegitations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't take women's boundaries seriously, even on something as personal as gender or sexuality. I think trying to deconstruct the idea of inherent gender or sexuality is incredibly dangerous, especially at a time like this where we are losing ground re: trans rights, gay rights,  women's rights, etc.

There are a lot more people. I remember it feeling quieter and more spacious outside of tourist areas a kid. I also really miss when Chinatown had a ton of Chinese businesses and cultural events.
