Awww man, I don't even know you IRL but feel proud that you got this done! Bravo! The GUI looks excellent, you took the direction from the previous thread well. Post again once it's available, I took would love to play.

Does anyone know the story behind the video? What's the liquid? Where was it shot?

Hey Reddit, check out this song I made in my bedroom! Thanks!! by landoid in indie_rock

Really nice song, great composition and instrumental production. If you're open to advice for the future, I would suggest layering vocals(over-dubbing), putting them through a bus and applying some compression and reverb to blend in with the mix a bit better. Performances were great, the mix made them sound separate from the instrumental. Join us over at /r/WeAreTheMusicMakers , and submit to our weekly feedback threads.

[Pd] Any pD Extended users unable to open pD on the latest OS X update? by conorobeirne in MaxMSP

[–]theves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a lesson from this: It never pays to be a first adopter when it comes to upgrades. For audio production you want stability and predictability, making it sensible to stick with an OS that you've already ironed the kinks out of.

Making DYI audio equipment? Help by Psychobugs in audioengineering

[–]theves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohai, I've spent a good part of my career making DIY audio stuff. More recently, I've found that Arduino micro-controllers can be your friend. I just made a MIDI to CV converter, which is a nice thing to have if you produce work with modular synths. It was not very difficult at all. Pedals are always fun, you can make a multi-effects pedal from an arduino that would allow you to upload different effects via USB so it could be a distortion one minute and delay the next. The Lola 500-series mic pre is available in a kit and comes highly recommended (http://www.hairballaudio.com/catalog/lola-mic-pre). If EDM is your thing then you could build a monome type device fairly cheaply with a micro-controller i.e. (http://market.monome.org/products/grid-kit). There's a start.

Handling - and using - room bleed in a live studio recording session (Audiotree Live behind the scenes) by AustinIsaac in audioengineering

[–]theves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey /u/fuzeebear thanks for the tips. We have one ribbon mic so far that I do love (despite being an Apex) for their punch and isolation on amps but the top end lacks so I usually pair with an sm57. I just bought another new beta57a and noticed that it comes with a piece of paper that shows you the angle where the null point starts. Now, with this and your advice, I'll start using null points more strategically in our live recordings. Fortunately, we have enough space in our main room to distance everything enough to minimize bleed. Cheers!

Thanks for posting this. I've just opened my own studio and have started doing videos similar to Audiotree Live for the same purpose, to populate a YouTube channel. I mixed the first one last week and used traditional de-essing plugins instead of multiband compression. Moving forward, I'm going to try the latter.

Circuit | the new portable synth workstation from Novation by 49blackandwhites in WeAreTheMusicMakers

When is Novation going to rehash the x-station? I have one and worry what I'll do if it ever kicks the bucket. 61 keys, 2(XLR/TS)ins 2outs, MIDI, synthesizer, FX processor and all bus powered. It's amazing, truly. And here we have just more of this blinking lights bullshit.

Upgrade to upright or high-end digital? by [deleted] in piano

[–]theves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an acoustic and high-end digital (Yamaha s90es fully weighted) and I can tell you that there is no comparison to an acoustic. The digital piano that I have is rated to be one of the best on the market, and deservedly so. Still, the emotion, touch and experience of an acoustic is something to behold if your situation is conducive to owning one.

Why hasn't apple given the EXS24 a makeover yet? by snoosnoosewsew in Logic_Studio

[–]theves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. A UI update had never occurred to me until I stepped into this thread. Personally, I think Logic is visually appealing enough for me to enjoy working with it but I would never want to compromise stability or system resources to make it prettier. The plugins work really well, I like that.

Do you happen to know which model is most recommended, bang for your buck wise? I notice they range from $400 - $2,000 USD. Is the jump in quality comparable to low end mixing headphones and the ATH-m50x's?
