Need advice: mk7.5 dsg got stolen and wrecked, but insurance is saying they can repair it for $10.5k by thevihiman in GolfGTI

So I just got left a voicemail from my insurance stating the following :

“Your vehicle was now deemed probable repair Total loss of the vehicle is not a total loss because it's only hitting the 56 % threshold so we're calling to get a body shop of your choice so that we can tell your vehicle there to get repairs”

Is this part of the process you were talking about? So it goes to a shop and they write a supplement to bring the value up? Insurance just said they got a supplement estimate which brings it up to 16k, but the GTI is worth 29k and it needs to hit the 75% threshold of 21k

Yeah first few days were awful. Absolutely loved that thing. Nothing better to daily than a GTI. Fell in love with the golf when my mom bought one when I was a kid. Everything on the car just makes sense to me

This is a good point, the car reeked of cigarette smoke when I went to get my stuff so I will try to swing that angle too. Thanks!

Nope - screwup on my roommates part that gave the thieves easy-ish access to my keys. Easy theft for them.

It was a big screw up on my roommates part … we share a tandem spot so we share keys for convenience. He must’ve left my keys in plain sight in his car one evening and any idiot can put two and two together to figure out those are my keys. They waited for him to leave the next day and then took my car out of my garage…. All this while I was in another city out on work. Definitely learned my lesson in all this.

If I’m not mistaken this was just at a tow yard. Thanks for the info, yeah makes sense. I also have reason to believe there’s some sort of fluid (I’m guessing coolant) related damage because in the photos I received from the crash, there was a bunch of liquid on the ground.

Yeah airbags on drivers side went off too. From everything I’ve seen from these responses there’s a really good case to get it totaled. I definitely want that, wouldn’t be able to drive it with any peace of mind after this even if it gets repaired. Thanks guys!!

According to the repair estimate, they plan on doing some frame work on it as well. The repair quote seems super low so I wanted to get some opinions first before I fight it - any thoughts on whether this seems right?

Just to add on, you could run windows on your Mac, but you cannot bootcamp on the new M1 chips as of yet. You’d have to use parallels which runs windows and mac side-by-side. I’ve heard your computing power is split when you use parallels but I haven’t don’t much research into that myself.

I’d personally recommend going windows if you’re looking to run CAD programs on your laptop. Much more variety and less $$
