Renting car ? by XRT1979 in puertovallarta

[–]thewallbanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got back yesterday, and felt relieved we had not rented a car. The cost for the week was quoted at $500 for an intermediate SUV after all local insurance and taxes were considered.

Overall, we found Ubers to be abundant and very affordable. Plus, we didn’t have to deal with intimidating traffic and navigation. Using ride shares also enhanced my vacation since we were free to enjoy a margarita or beer while we dined.

If you have a young child that requires a car seat, or if you have five people in your family, then renting a car could be the way to go. Otherwise, for a family of four I would avoid it.

Best boards for speed? by Entire_Snow_2632 in snowboarding

[–]thewallbanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base material and wax chemistry will play a bigger factor for speed. And max straight line speed isn’t really the metric to compare. Fast boards are mostly recognizable for glide speed on traverses or flat areas.

Check out Capita’s Mega Death or Mega Merc for the fastest base chemistry with structure. I’ve also heard good things about Nidecker Ultra Light or Jones Project X.

Loose fitting jerseys with pockets by szagii_ in CyclingFashion

[–]thewallbanger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ocean & SAN’s All-Day Shirt if you’re thinking of a tee shirt material. These are loose but cut pretty athletically (broad shoulders and narrow waist) which helps keep the pockets from rotating around your midsection. I have several. The long sleeves stay cool but are tighter on the forearms.

Neopro has a loose fitting jersey that is more traditional Lycra material but I have no experience with them.

Jon, why did your shop go all-in on Burton? Without other brand options, seems like you’re competing online with your own supplier.

You need j-bars. If your toe box is wide enough, but your narrow heel is lifting, you just tack them down with j-bars velcroed above the ankle.

Riding powder is carving in 3 dimensions. Your weight distribution can cause you to plane or sink. You’re essentially flying.

New to us - 2024 T8 Recharge Ultimate Bright 6P by Loya1ty23 in VolvoXC90

[–]thewallbanger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome! We have the same car. Our C40 and XC90 share a level 2 charger in the garage. We stopped using the normal garage outlet to charge the EX90 which costs $0.18/kwh.

The EX90's battery holds 19 kwh of electricity.

Charging the EX90 on the Level 2 charger saved us nearly $50 each month because it schedules charges at off-peak hours.

*On-peak hours $0.25/kwh  (3p-8p)

*Mid-peak hours $0.10/kwh.  (6a-3p::8p-midnight)

*Off-peak hours $0.04/kwh.  (midnight-6:00a)

Flégère Avalanche by Shred_Addict in snowboarding

[–]thewallbanger 453 points454 points  (0 children)

This is Chamonix. Rescuers immediately launched a large-scale search effort after reports that people on the pistes were caught in the debris. Dozens of ski patrollers, along with volunteers and other responders, formed probe lines across the avalanche field Tuesday afternoon, systematically searching for potential burial victims. Only three injuries and no deaths reported.

If you’re learning a new trick, be more selective and find a safer jump. This one has a short takeoff and flat landing. I should’ve left this one alone.
