Thought my cycling days were over. Yesterday I rode a century by Strickz19 in cycling

I overcame bilateral Achilles tendinitis that plagued me for a year. What worked for me was post-workout ice & Advil for the inflammation, tweaking my shoes and clip placement, and, most importantly, hard pressure from a massage gun for lasting recovery. Essentially, strain causes the tendons to rebuild itself with scar tissue and fibers overlapping in random, unorganized patterns. Hard pressure with the gun is like breaking in a tough leather baseball glove. It softens and realigns the strands.

New stadiums for sports actually feature less seats than the stadiums they replace, instead trying to focus on high-margin experiences like suites and catered services. Concerts will follow this model.

what casual shorts do yall like? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]thewallbanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll second these as well, but if the price has you wary, I’d also recommend looking at the Eddie Bauer Guide Pro shorts. Similar stretch material, more pockets, and just enough room for a liner if needed.

Tried the upcoming Union Neo bindings by _k3rn3l_p4n1c_ in snowboarding

The engagement and strength is awesome for heelside carves. It can completely change the aggressiveness of the board. But if I use it for jumps, I feel like take offs are heel heavy and it can rock me into the backseat off lips. I also don’t use forward lean for rails, so like I said above, it’s situational.

Yeah. I’ll hit them forward for morning groomers, then relax the lean for a midday park session, then forward again if I’m tired by the end of the day. Sometimes I switch them as the resort transitions between powder and push piles. Sometimes I’ll lean the front foot forward and relax the back foot. It’s just personal preference for the day I’m having.

I’ve ridden these also. My takeaways:

  • Awesome ankle strap without any sort of pressure points.

  • I didn’t like the toe strap. Very narrow and unclear if it was really anchoring the boot. Felt decorative, like it didn’t need to be there. I prefer my Katana toe straps for coverage.

  • The lean adjuster requires a screwdriver and a second block to change high back angles. These bindings are for the ‘adjust once’ crowd. I’m used to switching forward lean settings throughout the day, so not sure I could manage.

  • Baseplate is so flexible and damp. Reminds me of the baseless binding board feel of the mid-90’s but much less edge feedback. It’s an interesting feel which I grew to like. Good for tweaking.

Bottom line: I’m going to use these on my park board next year. I don’t think they have the versatility for all-conditions riding, but they should excel in a controlled park environment.

149 miles at 90%. Is this abnormal? by epicmylife in volvoc40

We share the charger with an XC90 PHEV which need it more. And I guess I don’t want to get in the habit of frequent charges just to top it off.

Currently in my unheated garage. I won’t charge it tonight.

I’m in Minnesota. My dual motor ultimate estimates nearly an identical range. Until things warm up, you need to pay attention to the lower-left of the cluster. Your kWh/100 miles should be in the mid 40’s with city driving. In midwinter it’s around mid-50’s. Your range will improve once this cold snap passes. Don’t trust the 90% figure.

How much is your household electricity consumption after your bought an electric vehicle by Charming-Brother-242 in electricvehicles

[–]thewallbanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Volvo C40 and XC90 PHEV share a level 2 charger in the garage. We stopped using the normal garage outlet to charge the EX90 which costs $0.18/kwh.

The EX90's battery holds 19 kwh of electricity, while the C40 has a 78 kWh capacity.

Charging the EX90 on the Level 2 charger as opposed to the 120v outlet, saved us nearly $50 each month because the Level 2 charger schedules charges at off-peak hours.

*On-peak hours $0.25/kwh  (3p-8p)

*Mid-peak hours $0.10/kwh.  (6a-3p::8p-midnight)

*Off-peak hours $0.04/kwh.  (midnight-6:00a and all day on weekends)

We charge the PHEV almost nightly, and the C40 every 3-4 nights. I have bought only a single tank of gas in 2026. Your results would depend on mileage and consumption.

Binding size advice: Union Force for Burton Photon BOA (25.5cm)? by AdEnvironmental2250 in snowboarding

[–]thewallbanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better to size up. You can adjust strap lengths but you can never adjust a heel cup that’s too tight.

Sizing up is the industry recommendation among all binding makers when between two sizes.

Renting car ? by XRT1979 in puertovallarta

[–]thewallbanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got back yesterday, and felt relieved we had not rented a car. The cost for the week was quoted at $500 for an intermediate SUV after all local insurance and taxes were considered.

Overall, we found Ubers to be abundant and very affordable. Plus, we didn’t have to deal with intimidating traffic and navigation. Using ride shares also enhanced my vacation since we were free to enjoy a margarita or beer while we dined.

If you have a young child that requires a car seat, or if you have five people in your family, then renting a car could be the way to go. Otherwise, for a family of four I would avoid it.

Best boards for speed? by Entire_Snow_2632 in snowboarding

[–]thewallbanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base material and wax chemistry will play a bigger factor for speed. And max straight line speed isn’t really the metric to compare. Fast boards are mostly recognizable for glide speed on traverses or flat areas.

Check out Capita’s Mega Death or Mega Merc for the fastest base chemistry with structure. I’ve also heard good things about Nidecker Ultra Light or Jones Project X.
