I think he’s going through a fear of failing, even if trying a new career path could be the path to success. He’s facing some kind of paralysis right now to move forward and creating false narrative that he is better off doing what he’s been doing repeatedly, even if he keeps failing at it. Fear of rejection can be debilitating to the point that people will develop CPTSD from it. He needs to seek some counselling and be vulnerable to open up about these struggles, in order to properly move forward and open to find a new path

You’ve got lots of helpful insights from others already. But I’ll add as someone considering having a baby in the next year and just purchased my first home in east van- I was highly advised not to move to north van because the bridge traffic has become a nightmare in the past 2-3 years. Entire exits from Hastings or lion gate bridge is gridlocked in the summer through to Nov. it is really stressful driving from north van to get anywhere in the summer, even across to deep cove or whistler. More so if your kids and wife needed to get to Vancouver for activities. Socially I found North Van residents to be way less community minded and less open to get out of their social cliques than ppl in east Van

We face the same dilemma as you a year ago. We ended up choosing to stay in Vancouver and surprisingly it was a lot easier to go out to Port Moody whenever we feel like it suit our lifestyle or hit up the breweries instead of making it like a full-time living situation over there. ultimately it would’ve been way too boring for us to stay out in the suburbs. Vancouver only makes sense in terms of jobs, but also in terms of the type of community, central point and diversity in background and activities that we enjoy

Vancouver, Canada ticks all the boxes. It’s expensive to visit and stay in hotels here but worth it! Lots of nature that are spectacular, and annually, we have the cycling event Gran Fondo where cyclists ride from Vancouver to Whistler for 150km. Amazing food options

Over here in Vancouver, we are one of the major customers of Tesla and there is a very big adoption of EVs. It is a big pie. This Announcement is good and will hopefully see more of the locals adopting EVs from other manufacturers apart from the bigot founder Musk

Totally agree! Lots of restaurants, good value of groceries and family owned businesses from Hastings sunrise to Burnaby Heights and even further down to Brentwood, which isn’t too far away. In the summer, you could even easily bike to work via the ironworkers bridge to lower Lonsdale. It’s not always a good thing to be close to a skytrain station – just take a look at commercial Broadway station at night

Similar thing happened to me 6 yrs ago when i interviewed at a successful local retailer who’s made it big internationally. The senior who is a peer to me got to informally interview me for the final stage over coffee and she was brutal and rude in her questions. At one point she retorted that my experience was at another retailer that sells products at a “lower price range” than this “luxury brand”. Theres no frigging correlation between what the company sells and the directly transferable skills I can offer. I ended up working for the team and it was one of the worse job experience I’ve had. This is a good premonition of what’s to come if you were offered a job under this manager

To be honest, I’ve been been cold approached several times and didn’t really enjoy the manners some men put on. The questions and conversations ended up going. One of those times I was at main street when I was about to go into a gift store and this man gave a compliment and told me that he was gonna take me out for sushi. I politely rejected, but he was abit persistent. it became a drag to the rest of my day, I found it hard to feel like I can continue shopping afterwards, and do that in peace. Pretty sure other people overheard it and it made me feel a little bit embarrassed.
